Why Burkina Faso's President Traoré Is Popular Among Young Africans - BBC by FuglyGurl(op): 5:23pm On May 07, 2025
* Instead of damaging his reputation, the US criticism boosted Traoré’s popularity, both in Burkina Faso and across Africa.

● However, Traoré popularity go beyond civilian acceptance of di military regime. Im don make radical reforms wey dey sweet large sections of di population.

Thousands of pipo gada for di Place de la Révolution for Ouagadougou on Wednesday 30 April to show dia support for di President of di transition, Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

Di demonstration happun afta di US commander of AFRICOM, General Michael Langley, tell di US Senate Armed Services Committee for early April say di military regime wey dey power for Burkina Faso dey take advantage of di resources for di kontri, particularly di gold reserves, for im own protection instead of di population.

Wetin General Langley tell di US Senate provoke pipo to react for Burkina Faso and throughout di ESA kontris and even beyond di region.

Di goment of Burkina Faso bin condemn di statement wey di US military command, make wit di 'aim to spoil di kontri image.

Hundreds of messages and publications to support Captain Traore don full social networks in recently.

For X platform, artists, activists, young African leaders and even African-Americans bin dey para sake of di statements wey di US General Langley make.

Dis massive support for Burkina Faso military leader, Captain Ibrahim Traore, dey come at a time of growing tensions wit Western powers.

Di accusations of corruption wey General Langley make against di President of di transition, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, instead of am to weaken di regime for Burkina Faso, e reinforce di status and aura of di young military leader, wey im popularity extend beyond national borders.

For several years, Burkina Faso bin dey suffer from jihadist violence wey bin don claim thousands of lives and displace more dan two million pipo.

Wen im bin take power for September 2022, Captain Ibrahim Traoré bin promise to make di fight against terrorism im priority.

Im bin launch massive recruitment campaigns for Volunteers for di Defence of di Fatherland (VDP), im step up military operations and strengthen di capabilities of di armed forces.

Dis offensive stance against armed groups win di support of a large part of di population.

However, Traoré popularity go beyond civilian acceptance of di military regime. Im don make radical reforms wey dey sweet large sections of di population.

A sovereignist and outspoken voice
Traoré quickly adopt anti-imperialist stance, wia im bin strongly criticise di interference of Western powers, particularly France.

Dem see im decision to draw closer to new partners like Russia and Iran, and to leave certain regional cooperation frameworks (G5 Sahel, ECOWAS) as stamping of im sovereignty.

Dis geopolitical shift dey make young pipo wey dey seek political and economic independence happy.

President Ibrahim Traoré popularity wit young pipo na mainly due to im anti-imperialist stance and im sovereigntist discourse, according to journalist and writer Seidik Abba, associate researcher and President of di Centre international d'études et de réflexions sur le Sahel (CIRES).

'First of all, im his anti-imperialist stance dey. Di fact say im dey position imsef as pesin wey no want any foreign interference for im kontri affairs dey go well wit young Africans, wey don tire of di old system whereby African kontris dey take orders or dem dey go seek orders from dia former colonial powers or di international order.

Dis nationalist, anti-imperialist stance don make am dey veri popular wit young pipo', Abba tok

For im plenti speeches, e dey normally repeat im determination to "restore soverignty and pride give di pipo of Burkina Faso".

E warn for 1 April, 2025 wen dem bin dey do di traditional raising of di colours say, "we go dey merciless and ruthless against pipo wey wan block di development of our homeland".

Di kain way wey e dey tok don totori plenti young pipo wey dey now identify wit dis anti-Western discourse, na how Seidik Abba see am.

Di Nigerian tori pesin and writer look di mata tok say, "dia be also di way wey im dey tok, di way wey President Ibrahim Traoré dey tok come outside, how e dey shift from some dipllomatic precautions we e dey blast France and di media wey im accuse say dem dey close to di West. We fit see say im speech no dey choke wit diplomatic safety nets. Dis outspokenness na bicos e dey young".

But Daniel Eizenga wey be researcher for di Center for Strategic Studies for Africa wey dey for Washington DC, USA argue say dem need to torchlight Oga Traoré popularity wit ordinary pipo in di context of democratic backsliding and lack of freedom of expression.

E tok say, "afta e stage im coup for 2022, Captain Traoré use anti-imperialist tok-tok take use popular beef to ginger political support. Dis move seem to dey popular wit di younger generation of pipo wey dey more present online for social media. But Traoré popularity wit ordinary pipo get comma. Traoré dey responsible for spike in violent repression against im critics. As oga of junta, e don repress independent voices well-well.

Journalists, civil society leaders, political party leaders and even judges don dey targeted by di junta wey dey use forced mobilization and oda kain violent repression.

"Citizens wey dey call for change don dey kidnapped, detained, disappeared and sent to di front line afta dem force dem to join di kontri's militias."

Captain Ibrahim Traoré, President of di Transition, receive Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye on 30 May 2024.

Traore is a fraud, just like peter obi. He will eventually be kicked out of power. There's nothing special he's doing in Burkina Faso, he's just busy spending money on propaganda while terrorists are taking control of more lands under his clueless watch

Are you talking about tinibu? Everything you said here points to tinibu.

Even the fraud you called Obi reminds me that tinibu feeds on fraud that's why Nigeria is going backwards under his watch.

The Burkina Faso military is losing ground to the terrorists. it was under Traore's watch terrorists killed over 400 people in a single day last year. If it happened in Nigeria, you would have almost tore your clothes in anger while cursing Tinubu.

The Nigerian military is doing better than Burkina Faso military. Under the watch of Traore, over 400 Burkina Faso citizens were killed in a single day last year. If it happened in Nigeria, I know you will still be cursing Tinubu.

He promised to bring an end to insecurity, it's one of the reasons he gave while carrying out his treacherous act. Insecurity has escalated under his watch.

Look at what this one is saying?
Wetin dey work you set? Which Nigerian military is better than that of bukina Faso? Haven't you heard from some persons that their village was attacked, about how the Nigerian military were busy collecting money on checkpoints while a nearby village are being attacked and sacked by killer herdsmen.
Many are being killed daily under tinibu's watch it's just that, the biased and propaganda media we have in Nigeria is hiding a greater part of the bad news. Do you know how many people that have died in Benue state alone?
Stop saying nonsense you are not dealing with dafts.
