With this the scheme will be meaningful to graduates.

Long overdue. NYSC should be converted to a skills acquisition Program, and each prospective corp member should be allowed to serve in their state of origin or comfort zone. No they carry person pikin go Zamfara.

If members of the medical corps can be paid N250,000 per month; and teachers corps around N200,000, that could encourage more corpers.

But this will create new problems as existing teachers in particular will be very unhappy.

Whatever it is, it is good to finally see a Nigerian government that is willing to look at challenges in a new and different way.

There current N77,000 will be more valuable than that N200,000 and N250,000 you proposed.

This review is overdue.
In addition to this let the FG create a Ministry for Local Government Affairs that will be vested with the responsibility and partnership with the various States' Local Government, synergize with the Ministry of Education and Health, remodeling and building model Primary and Secondary schools, Community Model Health Centers and Primary Health Care Centres and let their standard and classification be upgraded to meet modern day realities in all the LGAs across the entire federation and let those who are posted to such villages and actually working be paid some form of special hazard allowance apart from the regular NYSC allowance.

There should also be a Corps done also for the Agric/Agro/Allied sector to cater for those who studied Agricultural related courses. They should all be put to useful use in the farms owned by the FG and States and also serve as Agric Extension Workers for both farmers and herders nation wide. We should be intentional about it all.

If I am the president, NYSC would be my best tactics of battling unemployment in the country.
I would set up massive farms and big vocational centers in all geo political zones and make service to be 18 or 25 months.
First 6 months in your PPA with rigorous training in your area of specialization, then assessment to make you qualify for direct short employment and empowerment, those that failed will finish a year in their PPA with the current pay.
Those that qualified would step up and receive 250k upward for the remaining 19 or 12 months in their working centres.

#120k would be automatically saved as gratuity for each qualified corp members and released immediately after service tenure.

Exemption would be made available after 6 months for those that wants to travel out or have other planned engagements.

Believe me the gratuity is something worth to start with in the journey of success if village people are not involved.

I want all Yoruba youths in the military, but they must train, station and serve in Yorubaland to protect our homeland. Why not incorporate that into the university curriculum?

Many primary and secondary school now have certain skills incorporated into their curriculum?

In the school where I teach, students are encouraged to own farms in the school compound. Last term, one student harvested a yam tuber that was so big, some of we (the teachers) had to help him carry it to the store room.


We also have a home maker club where boys and girls are taught how to cook and bake varieties of things. And then the science club. During a science fair, a student of ours built a robot from scratch and even represented Nigeria in a science fair in Dakar.


If I become president tomorrow, the NYSC will go. It has no usefulness. I would rather invest money into overhauling moribund curricula that have no progressive outlook.


Nigeria needs to start looking ahead like every modern country.


The NYSC will not help us get there. It would only continue to allow government steal money and access cheap labour.

I like how they cannot pay minimum wage of 150k but people are out here thinking that kpe they will pay teachers/medical corps 250k. Very ambitious

Too many corrupt people sustain their rich lifestyle from NYSC so it will not be scrapped. I doubt it will be overhauled significantly either but we'll wait and see

They have it, but they need to get value for the 75k being paid. And not just pay some ghost unproductive corp members that add no value to their immediate environment

Yes Chief. U wouldn't knw how important a skill or side hustle is until u enta labour market after NYSC and find out that no job is available. So many unemployed and underemployed graduates.
