Obi, in his speech, had questioned the integrity of the recent Edo guber Election, calling it "undemocratic, we know who won the election"

Edo State Government has rejected the recent comments credited to the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi regarding the integrity of the September 21st 2024 governorship election in Edo State.

A statement signed by Fred Itua, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo said Obi’s claims, alleging that the election was not free and fair, are not only unfounded but also deeply disrespectful to the will of the Edo people who exercised their democratic rights in a peaceful and transparent manner.

Itua noted that the Edo State Governorship Election was conducted in accordance with the highest standards of electoral integrity, as observed by both local and international observers. The statement emphasized that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ensured a level playing field, and the process was widely acknowledged as credible.

Itua stated that Obi’s pronouncements are not supported by any credible evidence and appear to be driven by political expediency, rather than a genuine concern for democratic principles.

Itua remarked that it is regrettable that a figure of Peter Obi’s standing would choose to undermine the democratic process with such baseless allegations.

The Edo State Government therefore urged Peter Obi to retract his statements and respect the mandate freely given by the people of Edo State. The Government implored him to contribute constructively to the nation’s democratic discourse rather than engaging in divisive rhetoric.

Reaffirming its commitment to peace and democratic progress, the statement concluded that Governor Okpebholo will not allow anyone to jeopardize the hard-earned democratic gains made so far, insisting that the people of Edo State have spoken, and their voice must be respected.

A man who came 3rd, but claimed he came 1st and went on a circus and ended up proving why he came 3rd said:

(1) There was no democracy in Nigeria.
(2) That Edo election was the worst election and they knew who won.

If not for the anger of the young ones and the experiment for political relevance by the new age pentecostal churches, let everyone search his heart: did this guy turn Anambra to an Eldorado?

He said there is no democracy in Nigeria. If he believes this, can he at least withdraw from contesting? As for Edo election, maybe he meant LP won.

Delusion is the first of many symptoms of someone who deceived himself that the Christians in the southwest and uKwara could make him president.

Peter Obi was suggesting that the Edo election was rigged, whereas his party, the LP, was not even in the contest. The battle was between APC and PDP.

What a foolish statement to make at the memorial of an elder statesman. The agulu fraud basically turned the memorial event into a campaign ground.

Peter obi is becoming more unhinged as 2027 draws near. He may soon turn out to be worst than the mad man he takes his advise from.

I agree with this but what Peter Obi is doing with pronouncements like this isn't opposition, it's warrant imbecility.

You can't claim anything about elections without any iota of proof.

I notice lately he is just posting and saying rubbish. It's like he realises his political career is finished and that bitterness, knowing how close he was, has eaten into him deep.
