Ok. So FG has fully repaid it's principal loan. Also, SDR is not a debt, it's just asset on member states The only thing remaining is interest and charges, this is suppose to be good news na, why are people bittered? Interest and charges doesn't yield more interest cos interest are calculated on the principal and since the principal is gone, we are free. It's calls for celebration abeg |

There is no harm in saying Nigeria have cleared off the main debt but by playing the ostrich in denying the accruing payable interests on same debt burden is simply mischievous. It is just like servicing a debt while trying to pay the same debt. However, we have a gang of hardened looters who feel they are not accountable to a nation in legalizing lies as official policy of governance then expect such shame and embarrassment |

Just be honest but a government choose to be deceiving a nation thereby insulting it intelligence @ will. -Fuel subsidy is gone but they ended up borrowing and mortgaging Nigeria into more indebtedness to commit subsidy fraud. -Revamping of Refineries turned to be lies. -Sunday Dare and Reno Omokri blantantly lied to a nation about Nigeria becoming the 4th fastest economy on IMF radar while infact the nation is trailing far behind @ the number 37 position |

Racoon: REDshouse: Racoon: SmellingAnus: Racoon: Yankee101: jocelynor: Brendaniel: FreeSpirited:This is a repetitive thread, Sahara Reporters started this propaganda campaign even when there's an official data on IMF Website. I don't know why some people just deliberately hate any positive news about their own country. Read from the article According to IMF projections, Nigeria still owes SDR 125.99 million in charges. This is the sum of total interest due from now through 2029. An SDR is not money or cash being owed. An SDR is an asset reserves. The remainder of the charges are tied to SDR, Nigeria has an SDR with the IMF. Therefore Nigeria is no longer indebted or owing any actual monetary debts. Google SDR and Educate yourselves. It is a shame that Nigerian Journalists couldn't do a simple research before running an article, even when they know there are lots of educated illiterates among the public. |

Rivers start from a drop of water. Let's celebrate the obvious for now. We have years to focus on paying off the interest. |

richmond500:You can celebrate it o, but don't come and complain about what you celebrated later on, like how you celebrated about your second choice becoming president and now you are complaining about him. Back to the topic, Don't let anyone deceive you, Tinubu is like a man who owes palmpay 10,000 with intetest of 2,000 naira then goes to Opay to take a loan of 100,000 naira, he then removes 10,000 from the 100,000 and pays palmpay promising to pay the interest later, then tells you he has cleared his debt and that his financial records have gotten better. Tinubu has taken about 13.5 billion dollars in loan less than 2 years in office, ask yourself how much he cleared of in IMF if it is up to 4 billion dollars in the same 2 years

Traditionally right from Buhari days Nigeria have always borrowed more from Chinese banks than IMF because IMF attach conditions to loans while Chinese banks don’t and that the reason Nigerian government is indebted to Chinese banks to hundreds of billions of dollars in loans |
| Re: International Debts: Why Nigeria Still Owes IMF Millions by richmond500: 4:10pm On May 09, 2025 |
jocelynor:it means the loan will not be going up again due to interest. So Nigeria could take their time to pay up that interest anytime, even if they wait till 2028 before paying it up, there won't be additional interest |

SDR 125M is approx $175M which is negligible compared to what Nigeria owed the IMF for years. Just see comments fueled with ignorance littered everywhere in this thread. |

Lol useless news. What does this even mean? Nigeria media and weaving jargons. Where is the link to the said charges? As of May 2025, the SDR rate was approximately 3.0%, with an additional margin of 0.6%, bringing Nigeria’s effective interest rate to 3.6% annually. This interest is calculated quarterly. Therefore, even though the principal was settled in April, Nigeria still owes the interest that accrued prior to that, particularly for the first quarter of 2025. |
