Alot of businesses thrive in this dry economy because of social media, they're not providing jobs but they wan collect people means of earning a living because of some silly fine that'll eventually line Thier pockets
Re: FG Dares Meta To Shut Facebook, Instagram In Nigeria by Blazebond(m): 3:49pm On May 09, 2025
I told ya all nau, they ain't paying no fine and all this is a guise by the f.g to shut down what's app and Facebook, las las na VPN go cry for the matter.
Re: FG Dares Meta To Shut Facebook, Instagram In Nigeria by dederocs(m): 3:49pm On May 09, 2025
We must put our foot down, Facebook can be scrapped, we can negotiate with them on WhatsApp, but they need to pay the fine, although we can reduce the price of the fine a bit.

grin Meta is just bluffing and will do nothing.
Nigeria is arguably their biggest market in Africa, with her huge population of about 220 million or possibly more.
They know very well they have a lot to lose if they exit.
Well Chinese platforms are standby to comfortably fill the vacuum any day they decide.
But they won't allow China to muscle in as she's their perpetual geopolitical, technological rival.
Population does not always equal spending power. GDP per capita in Nigeria today is lower than 1960, what do you think that means? People should stop being delusional

You don't just out of nowhere order someone to pay up, that they committed a crime. Some places are not the Nigerian police station.

Anti people moves.
VPNs will circumvent the maximum ruler shenanigans.
Nigeria will end up in the black books of the international community.
Yes, education is not that important (boko haram) - however the elites use the most advanced private jets. They go to the best medical doctors. They stay in hotels and send their children abroad to partake of societies rendered modern by people who value education.
Social media isn't what you can censor that easily. Oil and solid minerals are not quite as valuable as a quarter of the value the social media ecosystem represents.
Buhari test ran this initiative by taking on twitter. His government gained nothing by it. Tinubu is towing the same path. Apparently this is a key strategy for APC. What exactly they stand to gain by deliberately setting Nigeria back remains to be seen.

This is a good move the discrimination in Nigeria is bad how can someone in Nigeria not get monetize despite having 7k followers, but once u enter Europe with less than 2k followers you will eligible, FG is right on this one but they should find a level playing ground for it not to impact the masses. Bye bye-bye

Ah!
Abeg o.

If they shut these two now, how Will APC be posting their falsehood and propaganda on the social media?

People like Bayo Onanuga and Daniel Bwala can't pay the conventional media stations and papers to air their falsehoods. Maybe only on NTA. But who still dey watch NTA sef?😂😂
No matter how you painted the situation, what you know is that FG doesn't give a Bleep about social media,if they have their way they will block Nigerians from having access to it.

Those countries provided proof that data was breached.
.
Nigeria didn't produce any proof and we won our case against them in court. How some Nigerians think and ridicule this nation eeh. Foreigners have more respect for Nigeria than some Nigerians have.

Tinubu should reduce the penalty to a max of 10% of the present sum.

Facebook isn't MTN. Again, economic xenophobia practised by countries such as usually Brazil backfires.

Is that what you think?

Do you have any idea the number of Nigeriana who will loose their daily source of livelihood of that happens?
Re: FG Dares Meta To Shut Facebook, Instagram In Nigeria by GeneralZodd(m): 4:06pm On May 09, 2025
Nigeria has a very strong influence on Facebook , Instagram and other social media worldwide. If Mark Zuckerberg decides to block Nigeria from accessing these platforms, his revenues will nosedive drastically.

A lot like what? How much are Nigerians spending on those platforms? Many states in the US have a GDP bigger than Nigeria, so how much do you think they are making from Nigeria?
No matter how small it may be, it's still a lose to them

You can't compromise Nigerians private data and think you can get away with it. This is the reason China doesn't allow US social media platforms in the country. Anyways, I like that FG is talking tough.
They can get away with it if ur market isn't worth the hype. Its about Value gain and If its low for meta they would rather abandon ur region.

Yes I do, that's why I said FG & not Nigerians... FG will even be happy if they decide to leave cos that's what they want; a way to clamp down on social media
