Tinubu looking for excuse to shutdown social media hitherto
That is their plans from the onset, but they forgot that social media has been alternative means of income to several Nigerians.

Even though Meta revenue from Nigeria is more than what you stated, all I asked was "is $20million a joke to you?" Once you realize that Meta needs our audience, you'll know why they'll have a lot to lose.
With VPN the audience goes no where , when Buhari banned Twitter that was the year Nigerians joined Twitter the most ...FCCPC should better reduce that ridiculous fine to some around 10 million dollars

Nigeria has the highest users from Africa, second only to Egypt. That's a fact
Lol...how much are they paying? How much are Nigerian companies spending on Facebook? What is the marketing budget of the average Nigerian company Vs that of an European or American company?

I can assure you that the revenue they're making in Nigeria is much much lower than you think. Do you think they would even threaten to leave if they were making enough?

but they told meta to pay $260m, if nigeria gives meta just $20m would it be wise for meta to pay that fine or just leave the country?

Okay, if you say so. You seem to think that Egypt is any better but both Nigeria and Egypt are connected to their diaspora family through Facebook. It's not just about Nigeria but Nigerians. The only country that has the most 'black' people is Nigeria. Not USA, not Brazil. If they were not making money, they won't be here. Don't let them deceive you. This is how they make black people feel like they are nothing in the US but they are the biggest consumers of their haircare, fashion and other goods.

There was a time black people left TikTok or they went on strike because they said without them, those platforms are not engaging and they are just stealing their ideas. If they were not valued, let them go. Na so Twitter do shakara that time.

You can't compromise Nigerians private data and think you can get away with it. This is the reason China doesn't allow US social media platforms in the country. Anyways, I like that FG is talking tough.
They can shut down, BBM will start its comeback from Nigeria, let me go and buy that blackberry my brother offered me for 20k
It will worth 250k when WhatsApp is shut down in Nigeria

Meta should NOT pay this fine. This is the same thing the Federal Government did with Binance. It's EXTORTION.

Meta, please don't pay. Call their bluff. Take all your employees out of Nigeria before they're kidnapped arrested. I doubt you earn much money from Nigeria, your service to the country is largely a humanitarian exercise. If possible, get together with other social media giants and blacklist Nigeria.

Good Luck to Nigeria.

Nigeria is part of the "Rest of the World" category at Meta. From their publicly available data about last year revenue, Nigeria should not be contributing anything less than $100million out of it.
$260m demand might be an overkill, how many companies do you know in Nigeria that are making equivalent of $20m without paying any form of taxes? Facebook and Instagram make money from targeted ads. Do you think it's wise to lose 100m+ potential audience in Nigeria?
