I Was Scammed And I’m Speaking Up So Others Don’t Fall for It Too.

Recently, I received what I believed was a genuine job offer from the FAO of the United Nations for an Administrative Assistant role. The offer came with an official-looking appointment letter (there was a first mail and also cause I have a profile on UN career page). I was filled with excitement and gratitude, I truly thought this was my breakthrough.

They asked me to complete the UN’s BSAFE training which is a real course hosted on a UN domain, and it was free. That made everything seem even more legitimate.

Then came the request to complete a QREDIVA “Better Tolerance” certification, which cost $99 (I had to borrow for it). They assured me I would be reimbursed once I submitted the certificate. With trust and hope, I paid for it and completed the course.

But then, I stumbled on a thread on X (Twitter). It turned out dozens of people had received the exact same offer, word-for-word, same role, same letter, same process.

That’s when I realized: it was a scam.

It was a painful moment. Not just financially, but emotionally. I had invested hope, time, and dreams into this opportunity. But I’m speaking up because I know someone else out there might be in the same position unsure, excited, and vulnerable.

Here’s what I’ve learned:
• UN agencies will never ask you to pay for training, certifications, or job processing.
• Real vacancies are listed on official UN platforms: https://careers.un.org
• If something feels too smooth or too good to be true take a moment to verify, ask questions, and double-check (I did my little research but I should have done a deeper one).

To anyone who has gone through this you’re not alone, and you’re not foolish. These scams are getting more sophisticated, and they target hope. Please don’t suffer in silence.

You’re mixing separate issues into one exaggerated rant. Nobody said the UN hires people directly through paid courses. What’s been said is that having relevant, verifiable training helps you stand out in global job markets—including UN jobs. Also, using SEO is standard practice for every modern organization—Google ranking isn’t a trick, it’s how people find credible services. Again: accusations are easy; proof is harder. You’ve offered none.

I was sent this same Fraudulent mail.

But I am too smart to fall for their cheap tricks.
I had to make a quick research and got all the info needed.
The offer was too good to be true and that was the first hint of it been a scam.
Bottom line - This is a HUGE SCAM.
And if you see something that looks too good to be true, look deeper. It might just be a scam.

Saying “email phishing scam” without sharing a single actual phishing email is like yelling “fire” in a movie theater without smoke. If people are referencing a UN role and recommending a training course before onboarding, that’s not phishing—that’s professional prep. The FAO often encourages candidates to take role-specific preparation. You just don’t understand the context. Try learning before accusing.

Though I got the fake job advert and went ahead to pay the QREDIV certificate and thank God I successfully got my certificate in June2025
