I don't know, never been there but how can all that be propaganda, even the aircraft he flew into Burkina Faso was purchased by Traore in under 2 years they now have a functional airline.

Democracy can work. At least, Senegal is proof of that. It's a better way because you build systems while solving problems and those problems are thus solved in a SUSTAINABLE way. And the world RESPECTS you while you're at it. Kicking out France is not enough to take these countries out of poverty. After all, Anglophone and Lusophone countries aren't doing much better. Trade and productive capacity building is how you ditch poverty. Ask China. And you can't trade when you're under sanctions and all. Not that the Traores of this world get it anyway. They think you can North Korea your way to happiness.

France can sponsor another captain to get this guy out and the status quo will return. But democracy? Laws and systems would be in place already. After all, the system of patronage you're talking about is how France worked with dictators from Mobutu and Eyadema over the decades.
