I'm a car dealer and at tje same time I've used several cars as I buy, fix and resell after some time, so I can tell which car is cheaper in terms of maintenence, purchase, fuel economy and at the same time classic or make you look richer in the Nigerian society


1. Mercedes Benz C230, C200k, C180, go for the 4 cylinder engine. These cars have engine sizes ranging from 1.8L to 2.0L engine size and they full option with sun roof or panoramic roof, back air condition vent with leather and fabric interior. The make alone is every classy when heard.

Let me burst your bubbles, Nigerian used is sold btw 3m to 4.5m. While toks is sold around 7m.
Intact I sold my 2 yrs used last year for 2.4m, first body with a tokunbo engine I installed barely 2 months b4 selling it ooo, with ac and everything working perfectly, c200k, 2003 model.

Parts are very very affordable, and are everywhere in the market. And their parts can last a life time unlike the Japanese you'll have to change after 4 months or 6 months max.

It's fuel economy is topnotch, 1.8l engine with kompressor that energises the engine and speed making fuel economy low, as a matter of fact, it conserve fuel more tha. Corolla 2006... don't argue with me... I used this car for ehailing (Uber) for 2yrs plus so I can tell you for free...

These Benz models you highlighted here, how cheap are their parts? Cheaper in Toyota class or slightly pricey? And these Benz(es), are their automatic gears good or they are better bought as manual tranny? What is the cost of replacing an automatic tranny for the Benz models you highlighted above?

I am asking this because I still remember that the backlight of a Benz that was bashed from behind earlier this year was around 170k (it is a more recent year , model C300). I don't know if the 170k is for both rear lights because I learned somewhere that spare part dealers prefer to sell both lights at once due to low patronage; i don't know how true.

Yes, benz is a classic and expensive car but not all. The once that are very expensive are the newer models, like the C300 2015 up, GLE class, in fact most benz from 2015 upwards are quite expensive to maintain, but when you compare their cost of maintenence with other manufacturers in the space of two year, trust me, you'll.be shocked that the benz cost less. because mist of their fix can serve a life time.

But you see those old model, 2010 downwards, bro believe you me, their parts are very cheap.

I've records I can show vai WhatsApp , I do waybill to Abuja, Ph, CrossRiver state, Mauduguru, and some west Africa Countries. So I can tell you, face by face, most benz parts are cheaper than the corolla.

Now, let's compare.
2006 corolla parts
The last time i bought Complete engine was in January, 2025 @800k
Then, C200K Complete engine was 400/500k

Shocks for corolla 2006 toks, is 30/35k for pair

For C200K 2003/05 2 pairs is 20k

The motor nondey use shaft so I can't compare

Tie rod for corolla brand new is 10k I supposed

Tue rid for c200K brand new is 6k

I use my break pads for 12k miles b4 changing, bit corolla 8k miles I'm changing it .

Gear box for corolla 06 is about 600/700k
The last time I bought for C180 for a client and se.t to Abuja it was 100k... that's was like 2yrs ago... then corolla gearbwas 250/300k

I.can go on and on, you'll get bored reading.


I can't drive a manual in lagos naw, haba... lol , so they're all automatic. Any ine that fits you buy.

These short market survey you put here looks unbelievable, but since it is from a first hand experience and witness, who am I to say no?

I dey fear anything wey no be Japanese cars, coz I dont care for that stereotypical class that German cars is said to possess especially Benz. I fear car break down like mad. The stvp!d beetle wey my papa use wen I was younger don create nightmare and phobia inside me wen it comes to car breaking down on the road. The thing too dey shame person.
For that, I go for Japanese reliability over German luxury.
But I will still make findings about your submission. And I also understand that these models you mentioned are getting old also with each passing day.

I would have mentioned the Peagout 406 sedan, not the hatch back oh the car... that car is damn cheap, both parts and fuel economy, menh... I travelled to Illorin with it, I bought full tank and spent 3 days b4 coming back to lagos, I was still having little fuel left. The car is classic as well and will.present you to the society like a military personal.

Tokunbo is sold for around 6 to 7m currently
9ja use is very scarce but if you see a good one it should rank almost 4m.

But this Honda is very expensive ooh as 9ja used toks grade is around 7m, 7.5m... I sold one 7.8m last month.
Tokunbo is about 10m 10.5m depends on the mileage and title. Part are quite expensive... and you've the dislocation of legs to worry about.

So to me base on experience I'll go with the first two over and over again b4 I will even think on the Accord or any other car

foreign used AKA tokunbo is around #6.5m while local used still clean is around #3.5m to #4m. I've used the car before, I even posted it here on NL when I wanted to sell it then. Very fuel efficient and doesn't give mechanical issues, I letter regretted selling that car

One, Nigerians aren't good debtors, regardless of income level. Two, you need electricity to power the charging stations for EV cars. For a people who complain about Band A cost of electricity, they don't have the financial capacity to buy and maintain EVs.
