No offense, sir, but studying Software Development in a Nigerian university is a big joke, a huge one, in fact. Your lad is truly gifted. I do not intend to discourage you sire, but if he were my child, I'd advise him and help him see reasons to pursue something Nigerian universities can actually handle. This is not to suggest that Software Development is a poor choice, far from it. I am where I am today because of it. However, I must emphasize that, based on my experience, most Nigerian universities lack the resources and expertise required to teach the discipline properly.

Software engineering is skilled base.
The university will teach you the rudimentary theories and some practicals;
It’s left for you to develop your self by your self by learning more.
And build your own future with your hands and by your self.
You don’t depend on the class room teaching to gain all the knowledge from software engineering.
They will guide your in logic’s , decision making, precision and also in physics calculations.
they will guide you on basics and on native languages.
Have this at the back of your mind.
100% all programmers are self made; and self skill made.
But the university can guide you in development life cycles and documentations, procedures and software development ethics and terms .
Standard software have standard development processes.

My boy scored 304 and initially wanted to pursue software engineering. However, after I shared a wealth of information with him, he decided to go for Computer Science instead. I work in an IT company, and interestingly, most of our software engineers have backgrounds in Computer Science, with a few in Mathematics. I'm truly glad he made this choice. I am happy you fulfilled your promise to your boy.
Now, I'm setting my sights beyond Nigerian universities. May God bless them for us o.

How? No breakdown of the results to even know how he performed. Jamb's rule is that you must be 16 years on or before 30th September 2025, my son will be 16 years by October 9th 2025, just 9 days away and jamb wants my son to wait for another 365 days because of 9 days.

My plan was to ask for special consideration and exceptional permission. How do I do that when I don't even know how he performed in the exams? Jamb should please give us the full results. We paid for it and we need to see our results.

Let me advice you.

If you want to see the good eyes of Jamb on this matter, desist from bringing the matter on social media.

I'm sure if you go to Jamb office and table your complain in a peaceful way, someone will help you out.

Whether your child score 200 or below it doesn't matter. Just try as a parent to ensure he or she schools abroad and watch how they succeed.. no let jamb dictate their future. A

You the father was the one unfair to him, you knew the rules even before he was born so why go ahead to register when you knew the restrictions decades before registering? If its for him to do a real world exam scenario that's fine but if its for you to circumvent the rules somehow then its wrong.

Law is law , it is what it is and not what it should be. When the rules changes then we change with it but for now everyone should follow the rules.

Double think that. Please do. It's always best to have a broader based first degree (So Computer Science in this case) and then specialise with a degree in Software Engineering. Just a random advice.

He will study software engineering because he can code very well with Python.

From a battle tested IT pro. Let him study CS o. E get why. Software Engineering for a first degree, in my opinion, is too limiting. You don't get the joy of learning things like Operating Systems or even the overall Computer Architecture and Hardware. Studied CS here. And I can go into any field of IT I want. I've worked in Supply Chain, Business Intelligence, Devops, now in Business Telephony/ Voice AI, will probably play with Building automation et al. CS opens the horizon

Please try and do everything in your care to ensure he apply for international scholarship. He's too brilliant to be in a typical Nigerian university settings that operate archaic curriculum and still write code in notebooks

Calm down. He's still young and will graduate by 21 or 22 years of age. There are tons of full scholarships for post graduate studies, especially in the area of STEM. He just needs to keep up the good work and graduate with good grade.
I started learning programming at 29. Starting software engineering professionally 3 years later. While at it, I got a full funded scholarship. I've interned with companies in the Baltic and Netherlands. No be everything be "Nigeria happened to you".
The lad still has his whole life ahead of him. He just have to have the right information and that's all.

Modified: The boy is already programming using Python at 16. As successful and fulfilled as I'd say I am right now, I didn't have that privilege until I'm in my late 20s. Whether they teach programming on slate of rocks in Nigerian universities, it's none of his business.

Nigeria will only happen to you if you're looking for connections to join pack of dull people working in the civil service. There's no job in Nigeria, but everyone I know in my circle are doing more than one job at a time, most of which they didn't apply for. The employers reach out to them on LinkedIn.

Even if it was passed into law, then Jamb should refund every penny it took for every underage applicant. These applicants did not falsify their age at the point of registration. My niece is crying at home as I speak. She is fifteen. The same with my nephew who is also her age mate.

Jamb should not have accepted their application in the first instance. This is fraud! They just used the kids to generate revenue for themselves. The Black race hates transparency and light. They love darkness and wickedness. This country nor fit get head again.

The under age students and their parents were made to sign an undertaken In which they swore they are brilliant and could score at least 320, your child didn't make 320 that's why he didn't get a result.

Ehya...the Exceptionally brilliant candidate form started this year 2025. It's for students that are below the age of 16, but can score above 320.

Your son would have admitted if the rule was in place last year.

They however reserve the right to bar him from any admission this year as the law is very specific on the age matter. Now whether this is a good or bad piece of legislation is not the topic in discourse.

His excellent scores in JAMB however could be reason for you to apply to the President through the current Minister of Education. You could also lobby for some exception the likes of Remi Tinubu, Abike Dabiri, Arise TV, X (Twitter) your Senator, Governor, VDM etc.

On the whole the result is so wonderful that several schools in 'the abroad' would consider full scholarship for him if he can back it up with other relevant certifications.

JAMB does not. Infact as long as you are not within the legal age JAMB by law can even prosecute you for breaking the law. You guys are very lawless in this country. Until JAMB start setting examples you people won't listen
