Two months after political commentator and former presidential spokesman Reno Omokri made explosive revelations concerning Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the Kogi Central lawmaker has yet to issue a denial or rebuttal.

In a public letter addressed to global news outlets including the BBC, Sky News, and Deutsche Welle, Omokri recounted a controversial 2021 episode involving what he described as a “fabricated sexual harassment allegation” made against him by then-Natasha Akpoti. The allegation, he claimed, stemmed from an encounter involving a woman on Facebook suspected of being part of a political honeytrap scheme — allegedly linked to Akpoti herself.

Omokri said he refused the woman’s advances, stating that he was “happily married.” Upon reporting the incident to security experts, he was informed of a disturbing trend in Abuja involving politically exposed persons being targeted with seduction and entrapment tactics using fake social media accounts.

The former aide to President Goodluck Jonathan further stated that Akpoti had accused him of sexual harassment at a state banquet on May 6, 2014 — an event he proved he could not have attended. He cited travel documents, including a first-class British Airways ticket and passport stamps, showing he was abroad on a diplomatic assignment concerning the #BringBackOurGirls campaign at the time.

Following the presentation of what Omokri described as “unimpeachable evidence,” Akpoti reportedly retracted and deleted her allegations. In a striking twist, Omokri claims he was contacted shortly thereafter by Akpoti’s then-fiancé (now husband), Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Uduaghan, alongside a prominent Christian clergyman. The trio held a three-way call during which Omokri was asked to accept an out-of-court settlement — a request he agreed to, receiving what was termed a financial "offering."

“Senator Natasha Akpoti almost destroyed my life,” Omokri said, “but for the fact that I am a meticulous record keeper.”

In his open letter, Omokri appealed to international media to balance their coverage and take Akpoti’s past into account, particularly in the context of her recent accusations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. He noted that she has previously accused multiple high-profile figures — including a cabinet minister — of similar misconduct.

“I do not know if her current accusations are true,” he wrote, “but the best predictor of future behaviour is past character.”

Observers have noted that since Omokri made his claims public in March, Senator Akpoti has remained conspicuously silent, choosing neither to confirm nor deny the allegations of retraction, settlement, or the payment styled as an “offering.” Her silence has drawn increasing attention amid renewed scrutiny over the integrity of her accusations against other public officials.

Critics argue that the credibility of ongoing allegations may be undermined by the unresolved questions surrounding her past conduct, while supporters insist each claim should be independently investigated.

For now, however, the silence from Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan only deepens the intrigue surrounding a controversy that continues to raise questions about accountability, media ethics, and the use — or misuse — of sexual harassment claims in Nigerian politics.
