I'm curious to know how the writer of this post got his or hers info, because what I do know this, Uthman Dan Fodio university is bigger than most of the universities mentioned. That school has about 14 very big villages inside it.

I mean, after you see the sign "Welcome to Uthman Dan Fodio university, you still have to drive like almost close to an hour or more before to get to the campus. Men, that school is really big.

All of them are located in where land is cheap

Where will UNILAG get 15,000 hectares in Lagos. Even the 802 acres has to be guided seriously before others encroach on it and steal multi billion naira worth of land.

The unusual crave about 'land mass' has gone too far.
What does it matter if Sahara University has the biggest land mass in the world?
Universities should be ranked according to:
1. Academic excellence
2. Qualified professors and teachers.
3. Research findings ---like which school can solve our daily problems with health care, agriculture, and even security, in addition to engineering?
4. Number of international awards and recognitions.
5. Percentage of graduates passing external and international exams.
6. How much endowment fund they can generate from alumni and supporters.
7. How happy the students are during and after school?

There's no where schools are rated based on if a student occupies more than 1 square mile all by himself.

It is false indeed, a simple Google check of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University of Agric Makurdi shows 8048hectres and it is not on the list, while smaller land sizes are there

For avric, livestock fishery there not only lab research on producing new genetic traits.
They also have field research that is required to get yield of harvest research and performance
That is why china has a rice variety that would give 22 tons per acre
And Nigeria has some other cassava varieties as well as

I understand why you asked but I can assure the agric institutions have been churning out new varians despite the meagre research funding they get
At least I know of cassava,rice ,palm oil seedlingsyam seedlings .I have not gone deep to read all there works

Sadly, we have carried the foolishness of revenue allocation erroneously based on land mass because of political factors to our institutions of higher learning.

Universities, to an extent like a church is not based on buildings or land mass, but on people and professionals operating the system.
So, you have Universities with one building and hundreds of off site campuses, and now we even have virtual Universities without physical buildings and certainly no land mass, yes, no measurable land mass.
Nigeria is apparently a country where irrelevant things are positioned to carry more weight than substantial issues.
It's like judging the best student of the year by say how well they dress, not on GPA, not on attendance, and not even on research efforts.
Who did this to Nigeria
