Putindbutt:It means that I am yet to see anyone who performed extremely well in both Maths and English. It's almost as if the brain only allows humans to know one subject better than the other. Tried finding out why and saw this.. I hope it helps. it is rare to find people who naturally perform exceptionally well in both mathematics and language. This rarity is due to the brain's functional specialisation and the way cognitive resources are allocated. Here’s why: 1. Cognitive Resource Limitation: The brain, like any system, has limited cognitive resources (such as attention, time, energy, and neuroplasticity). Excelling in one domain often requires dedicated, sustained practice, leaving fewer resources for developing the other domain at the same level of expertise. 2. Neural Competition and Specialisation: The parietal lobe (quantitative reasoning) and temporal-frontal regions (language processing) are distinct neural networks. Developing one system to a high level may lead to what is called "neural competition," where one system becomes dominant while the other receives less developmental emphasis. 3. Educational and Environmental Bias: Educational systems and life experiences often push individuals toward one track, reinforcing strengths in either quantitative or verbal domains, but rarely both. For example, someone pursuing engineering may rarely practise creative writing, while a literature major may avoid mathematical challenges. 4. Cognitive Style Differences: Mathematically inclined individuals often rely on abstract, logical, and structured thinking, while linguistically inclined individuals excel in narrative, emotional, and semantic richness. These are different cognitive styles, and switching between them is cognitively demanding. 5. Social and Psychological Factors: Sometimes, societal stereotypes such as "math people aren’t good with words" or "artistic people can’t do maths" discourage balanced development, reinforcing the gap. In summary, while the brain has the capacity to develop both, the natural tendency toward specialisation, resource limitation, and environmental reinforcement makes it rare to achieve high-level proficiency in both. However, it remains biologically possible with deliberate cross-disciplinary training. |

Judolisco:The nature of the exam is different. JAMB is one off, WAEC is a process. We should not throw writing to the dustbin yet. Yes you can type, but write first. Some top universities still use pen and paper for their exams even though Nigerians always think they are the best. Let them learn the foundation for life. |

He derseves a full scholarship to study his desired course in any university of his choice in Nigeria or even abroad if he secures an admission in a foreign school. I just hope his WAEC or NECO results, the prerequisite for admission into Nigerian universities will also be good enough not to prevent him from securing admission. Congratations to him! |

Obaofaba:You are already blowing the trumpet, yet saying "silent achievers" what an Irony. A people who constantly claim to be "the most educated" and scream same from rooftops are claiming to be "silent" at same time. Maybe "silent" has a different meaning in Yoruba language from the English meaning. Yoruba and silence are two words that can never meet. |

Judolisco:Are thieves scared of CCTV ? That is news to me . I would imagine thieves are more scared of broken glass on top of a fence .Either way they find a workaround I was hoping to hear of HOW CCTV being there is impregnable and there is no workaround Even before lockdown . I was familiar with the concept of doing exams remotely even from home with video monitoring, professional bodies do that these days. That is not new but how is the system tamper proof for an exam like JAMB in a country like Nigeria I imagine that it is only when there a suspicion of malpractice perhaps from unusual results that footage is monitored in detail Monitoring video footage takes time to examine when you consider the number of candidates involved. So whilst this may help I do not see it as a revolutionary gamechanger especially if there is collusion with officials as is often the case in Nigeria |

Putindbutt:that man is a disciplinarian, he doesn’t condone indiscipline ![]() I could remember when he was the DVC of unilorin, i was a fresher then I didn’t go for matriculation ceremony which I didn’t really take seriously, but almost cost me my admission and we were asked to call our parents for a meeting and we were fined 25k and we had just a week to make payment or forfeit your admission. So I’m not surprised with the way he has been able to reform jamb and had some credibility in the system ![]() |
