God please give Yoruba land more crude oil in their core Yoruba states so that they can become confident enough to fully support the peaceful division of Nigeria because it is their insatiable craven for free crude oil wealth in Niger Delta that have made them so scared and jittery of pursuing their Odudua Nation where they can build their own Yoruba nation as they desire angry
YOU ARE SO IGNORANT

You don't like Igbos, you want Igbos to leave Lagos and go back to their region, you don't like the way Fulani herdsmen are invading Yoruba communities and farms, killing rural farmers, kidnap people, etc.

Dividing Nigeria will make these things to stop because Igbos will be forced by law to leave Yoruba land and any Igbo person that wishes to return back to Yoruba nation will need to apply visa and your immigration decide whether to grant it or not.

Also, Yoruba nation will their own national army, Police, forest guard, border guard and patrol to stop Fulani herdsmen and terrorists from crossing into Yoruba nation to cause mayhem.

Yoruba own Lagos state which will give them an edge to kickstart their own Yoruba nation and build it to their desire and taste without anybody interfering or undermining their efforts. Yorubas will be completely in charge of the affairs of a Yoruba nation. Your future will be in your own hands. Igbos will no longer tarnish the good image of Yoruba people with their drug trafficking and criminal activities.

Now I sincerely ask, knowing all these great things will be achieved if Yorubas get their own nation, why do most Yorubas hate to hear that Nigeria wants to divide? Why do Yorubas hate Igbos so much for calling for peaceful division of Nigeria so that everybody can be on their own and decide how they want their nation to be? I would love to hear, thanks

White men partition African continent. What was given to us is what we claim till today.

The people of tokengi island wrote a letter to president Olusegun Obasanjo and pledge allegiance to Nigeria. They rejected Benin republic offer.

So the island is Nigerian territory by all standards

The Senator representing the Ogun West senatorial district, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, has hinted that Ogun State will soon join oil-producing states in Nigeria as drilling of crude oil will commence soon at Tongeji Island, located in the Ipokia Local Government Area of the state.

Adeola, while speaking in Ota at the 2nd Edition of the Town Hall Meeting/Mega Empowerment and Thank You Tour of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area,

said modalities are being put in place to commence drilling of crude oil at the island on the fringe of the border between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin.

He attributed the feat to the economic reforms by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration and the investor-friendly Ogun State Government of Governor Dapo Abiodun.

He commended the president for taking the bull by the horns and giving the country’s economy a new direction and praised Abiodun for espousing the infrastructural and socioeconomic development of Ogun State.

He noted that Tinubu has attracted more Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) into Nigeria within two years in office, and Abiodun has transformed Ogun into the best investor destination of choice.

The senator added that when the drilling activities commence in the oil-rich Tongeji Island, Ogun State will witness astronomical economic growth and prosperity while Nigeria’s crude oil production will soar.

Adeola commended the Ogun State governor for completing the agro-cargo airport, which has attracted other mega projects from the private sector, establishing a dry sea port, and delivering other infrastructural projects across the state.

Adeola declared that the governor will be remembered as the best in terms of the delivery of infrastructural and socioeconomic development.

On the empowerment programme, Adeola explained that he decided to decentralise the programme to empower more constituents in the senatorial district.

In another development, the senator declared that the nation’s affairs, particularly the economy, are no longer in the hands of the cabal.

He stated that various reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his assumption of office have rendered members of the cabal who held the country’s economy by the jugular impotent, stressing that Nigeria is now on the path of economic recovery.

Adeola defended the tax reform policy of the incumbent administration in Nigeria, noting that it is to salvage Nigeria’s economy from the members of the cabal.

Adeola added that the tax reform policy supported by the majority of members of the National Assembly has brought holistic change and liberation to the country’s economy.

@Porthouse7

You're historically incorrect. Did you know that Ajase (Porto Novo) a pure Yoruba city was ORIGINALLY part of the larger Yorubaland in Nigeria in the 1890s before it was excised and merged with Dahomey (now Benin Republic)?

Tongeji is in reality a Yoruba-speaking community which just less than 5 minutes from Porto Novo (or originally called by its Yoruba name called Ajase ) in Benin Republic.

Tongeji is likely a dialectic variant of the Yoruba language BUT then again, I watched a subtitled documentary done by the iconic movie veteran Tunji Kelani (TK) who interviewed to Oba of Ajase (Porto Novo) in Benin Republic who spoke about the Yoruba foundational origins of Porto Novo from Iseyin in Oyo, Nigeria centuries back. He ALSO CLEARLY stated in the documentary which is still online that the Ogus (formerly called Eguns) were allowed to settle among the Yorubas of Ajase because the Ajase folks and Ogus are ancestrally related to one another. The Oba said so further affirming that Ogus and Yorubas are direct blood relatives.

Since Tongeji is just less than 5 minutes from Porto Novo a Yoruba-speaking city in Benin Republic, it's likely that the Ogus who the Yorubas of Ajase (Porto Novo) allowed to stay with them straddle both sides of Tongeji and Porto Novo as well.

Why is he the most useless government? Is it because he didn't focus on Abeokuta alone just like his predecessors? grin

That name seems to be a tongue twister for you. It's spelled TONGEJI NOT "Togenji."

The Website right BELOW provides some deep insights into the history of the people of TONGEJI Island.

=>https://encyclopedia.litcaf.com/environment/environment-others/tongeji/

History & people
Tongeji has an interesting history which has helped fuelled the many claims about it. The ancestors came from Ilesha in Osun state and settled in Owode-Apa as hunters. Then they heard of the fabulous Island of Tongeji with plenty of games, as adventurers they came and settled there, selling their catch to the people of Badagry. Soon the forest became a hamlet, the hamlet a village and the village a small town. But the enduring question in Tongeji is that of identity and geography played no small part in it. For many years there were speculations about the ownership and citizenship of the people of the island. There were talks of a possible takeover by the government of Benin Republic which eyed the island because of a reported discovery of crude oil. Tongeji is part of Ogun State, even though it is nearer to the Benin Republic than Nigeria. The people speak Egun and Yoruba. Their fathers married from the French speakers, and the Nigerians but the people are generally considered Nigerians. Of the original population, only a few hundred people remained.

Hope that partly helps.

@porthouse7,

First off, you have an (f) in your moniker BUT I wanted to know if you are really a male or female? I ask because you actively defend Yoruba folks against attempts to denigrate Yorubas through the disinformation from those well-known online sources here.

Second, indeed, I've been a veteran member of Nairaland since 2005 (20 years ago) with an older moniker before I created this current one I'm using, so I know the background of a significant number of NL monikers here and I know full well that YOU are Yoruba because I've seen your NL posts before now. I ALSO remember sharing with you a May 2022 "BBC Global Disinformation Team" investigative video EXPOSING the criminal activities of "paid ipob online troll farms" who have been spreading disinformation and hate speech on FB, X, YouTube, WhatsApp and even NL to destabilize Nigeria online with free laptops, free mobile phones, and free Internet data bought for them by those who hired them as revealed in that "BBC Global Disinformation Team" investigative video. I've already shared that video with the owner of this Website (Seun) last month so that he will know where the problem of NL trolling and disinformation is really coming from and take firmer actions. We will NOT tolerate online hate speech and deliberate spread of fake news here.

Truly that name "Tongeji" doesn't sound Yoruba like you correctly stated. I would like to visit there on a short holiday visit one of these days whenever I'm in Nigeria to know more about the community which has a mixed population of indigenous Yoruba and Ogu-speking settlers who come and migrate out. There are YouTube and Instagram videos I've seen on TONGEJI Island that I will be watching later in this weekend and in the new week when I'm less busy.

I read somewhere yesterday on an Instagram page belonging to Ogun State where it was stated that TONGEJI is just a name that really has "no definitive meaning" and it's very CLEAR from what I read that TONGEJI Island was NOT inhabited by ANYBODY (until the arrival of the Yoruba hunters from Ilesa in the Osun State centuries back who then settle at Owode Apa in the current Ogun State before settling on TONGEJI Island for hunting purposes and selling of game or hunted animals caught on TONGEJI Island to Badagry people. Then other migrants came to join them later from different places, hence the use of spoken Yoruba and Ogu on TONGEJI Island.

Enjoy your day (and weekend).

Ciao
