Abeg, that rent-to-own, is there a site where one can apply for it, or what is the process to get one?
Re: Lagos To Introduce Monthly, Quarterly Rent Payment Options by shaboti: 9:55am On May 15, 2025
This will end up inflating rent generally. Imagine slightly increasing monthly rent.. That's x12 when you look at it annually and it will feed into annual rent surely.

I hope I'm wrong anyway.

Very commendable hoping for other states to follow suit especially here in delta state that landlords and agents have turned house rents to cocain business.

All we need in Lagos is, the Government should build more housing that will be affordable and also try to implement policies that will make house owners reduce rents.

We used to pay our house rent monthly. There was also an option to reduce your rent if basic amenities like tap water weren’t available. But everything changed the moment democracy returned in 1999. That flexible system disappeared overnight.... Hmmmm, Back then, the government set the rent range based on the location. But now, landlords call the shots. No regulation. No control. Just skyrocketing prices.
How did we go from structure to chaos so fast? Democracy really do us bad thing
It's called capitalism aka free market.

To be fair I think the Annual rent system works better. In Ireland where I lived half my life the monthly rent system is bad and abused. Thank God we have our own house thanks to the Irish Government.

There is nobody that doesn't have a house to leave in, at least in the village. What is bad is bad. It is the duty of the government and Consumer Protection Agency to always protect its citizens.

Following the implementation of these measures, the government must effectively oversee the practices of real estate agents. Should any agent fail to adhere to the established standards, they should face appropriate consequences determined by those incarcerated who are uncertain about their own sentences.. angry cool
dead on arrival

Rents will now be even more expensive, the Lagos State government is only after what it will be able to charge the house owners as LUC (Land use charge and other sundries) meanwhile the landlords will take advantage of the tenants by reviewing rents periodically. What needs addressing are the agency fees, commissions, caution fees and others fees that have been introduced that now made the yearly rent so expensive. It should also put in place a deposit fund safeguard so that the renters are not cheated out and the deposit cam be turned over to the landlord in case the renter damages or vandalizes the any part of the apartment cool cool cool cool cool

Whoever is proposing this should first implement it in Ikoyi, VI, Ikeja and Apapa, where rents are still not charged yearly.

I know Nigerians are not capable of thinking of anything good from scratch, and will never copy anything good. It makes me wonder where they must have copied this money-extracting tactic from
