I can still remember the panic and chaos that greeted you. At the mention of the name General Sani Abacha.

A very crafty, strict, ruthless and corrupt military man. In the height of his glory Abacha wanted to metamorph from military to civilian president.

Abacha had initiated a return to cilivian government with guide lines that were too stringent to follow. Many activist had protested about his policies and modus operandi. But like the biblical pharaoh. Abacha would jail them and the courts would support this tyrant.


In april of 1998, the unthinkable happened
Prominent figures in Nigeria started to campaign for Abacha, notably was

Oba of Lagos Akiolu
Lamidi Adedibu
Arisekola Alao

Abacha over night became a savior, even a one million man match was organised for Abacha by one fraudster Daniel Kanu who made a shocking statement that if Abacha doesn't contest he will commit suicide.


Then in April the unthinkable happened, out of 6 political parties 5 adopted Abacha as their candidate paving the road for a ONE PARTY STATE..

The EU, UN, US condemned this development and imposed sanctions on Nigeria but the tyrant never gave a damn.

With the political opinion rating of Abacha very high, many suggested Abacha would win by a land slide.

Just as campaign was ongoing, monies where being shared for propaganda, paid con artist like Oba of Lagos Akiolu organised yoruba obas to support Abacha.while this fanfare persisted The unthinkable again ocured.

That day it was crazy, June 8 1998, Federal broadcasting Corp of Nigeria Airs the news of Abachas sudden demise.

The. Journey of a one party start ended, will history repeat itself. Only time will tell.

Like Abacha, he will lule.
