No fewer than five suspects have been reportedly arrested in connection with the abduction and illegal sale of a two-week-old baby boy in Ajah area of Lagos State. 

The suspects, including a female guardian entrusted with the teenage mother’s welfare, were apprehended following a detailed investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

According to a statement issued by the State  Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin on Thursday, the case originated from a complaint made at the Ajah Division on May 5, 2025. 

The report detailed how a 16-year-old girl, identified only as Miss Happiness, became pregnant under undisclosed circumstances. Due to financial difficulties, her family entrusted her to one Nonye Osi for care until she gave birth.

However, police investigations revealed a disturbing conspiracy. Nonye Osi, along with four accomplices—Akintan Adedayo, Jimoh Bashiru, Elizabeth Bishop, and Bukola Oladapo—allegedly moved the teenager to an undisclosed location and sold the newborn for ₦3,000,000. 

"Following the transfer of the case to SCID, detectives from the Gender/Anti-Human Trafficking Unit launched a thorough investigation, ultimately leading to the safe recovery of the baby in Agemuwo, Badagry, Lagos." 

The police authorities confirmed that "the infant is in good health and is currently receiving care while arrangements are being made for his reunion with his biological mother." 

The Lagos State Police Command has assured the public that investigations are ongoing and all parties involved in the illegal transaction will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

No be to talk say infant is in good care will u take care of the baby or will u force the 16 year old who doesn't want it to take care of it? They call it baby factory I call it saving lives. Government should just look into this baby something not just arresting. Sometimes we use logic than laws. Even Jesus broke the law by healing a sick man on sabath day. The only problem with this baby factory of a thing is that the parents taking the babies are not aware that they are not the biological parents. If Government can make sure evrything is done right. They should allow people that don't want it give it to who want it. Before u shout adoption ask person wey don do am. Someone did legal adoption the baby don dey walka process never finish. I don't even know if it's the lawyers or the law
The next thing we will see babies in gutters because adoption laws are so strict and so expensive. Atleast these babies been thrown in gutters are more beautiful. A 16 year old girl pregnant with her parents who are adult fully aware don't want a baby and it's your problem. The problem should be who is paying for this baby. If its a couple, and every family is aware and in support what is the government problem when the baby will still have a better life.
