You've missed the point already. We're taking about cheap labour you're talking about multinational.

Do you think Lagos is a country of its own?
Or Lagos is an autonomous territory?
A Nigerian is at home in Lagos or Katsina, Anambra or Taraba, Bayelsa or Kano.
They don't have to answer shit to nobody
I understand that this is not illegal. I was just wondering about the motive and economic sense.

Good. Now, that they have been scrutinized and given security clearance. Let us begin to ask other important questions.

1. Why did the so-called contractor have to ship in 89 workers from Katsina?
2. What happened to recruiting within the employable population in Lagos?
3. What is the motive and/or economic sense in transporting workers from Katsina burdening the company further with providing accommodation for them?
4. Will these workers pay PIT to Lagos State Government? Or will they enjoy tax free wages?
5. After the contract, will the contractor ensure their return to Katsina or leave them to add further pressure to the scare resources and over-stretched public amenities in the Metropolitan City?

Meanwhile, there's absolutely nothing wrong with shipping workers from Katsina. But 89 at once? LASG need to ask questions.
You raised very valid points that LASG should be concerned about. One of the perks of locals and CSR of organizations within a community is employment opportunities for the locals...you don't import 89 workers at the expense of the locals!

They must recruit from katsina, inspite of all the jobless lagos boys? Sanwo olu, how many times did I call you?
He can recruit from anywhere, I don't care, as long as they don't become terrorists or b omb the company.

When they took $100M from Dangote for land, didn't they know Dangote also has the right on who to employ?

The best place to get the best workers for labourer Jobs at the moment in this country is from the North. Once it is confirmed that they are all Nigerians, the contractor has the right to ship a thousand of them from any part of the country without needing to answer to anybody. It is either we act as one country or you start advocating for separation of this country
I never said it was illegal to ship in people from other parts of the country. I was only wondering the economic sense and motive which you have provided insight to in your question. Not every opinion has to be tribal. Thanks for the insight.

You are the only person among all those who have quoted me so far that understands the underlying reason why I asked those questions. If the Lekki indigenes begin to sabotage the Dangote Refinery facilities tomorrow because they feel they don't have a stake in it, people will be calling them rogues. In the Niger Delta, the oil companies ensure that a larger percentage of vocational jobs are reserved for the locals in that community. Dangote himself should be worried that such a revelation has filtered into the mainstream news. Not a good PR for his company.

Recruit ordinary Security from the North and another one from the south and check the difference....
You are right. Thanks for the insight. I am just worried that the indigenes of Lekki where this refinery is located may not find this news palatable. I hope they do not begin to sabotage the DRL facilities in the coming days with the mindset that they have no stake in it.

but the company has already recruited people from Lagos? So should the only carry lagosians? Na same una go say only yorubas must be recruited and no other tribe. This refinery belongs to an Hausa/Fulani man,so he can bring his people to work with him.

Can any yoruba did that kind of labuor job, we even employed Aboki to do our house labour job.

The truth is they were cheap and hardworking, so as a contractor u tend to cut cost, but some of them will end staying back in Lagos after d project
I now understand this from the numerous other quotes like yours. But this publicity might not be too good for the Refinery. I mean, what will be the perception of the youths in the local community surrounding the Refinery? I hope they don't begin to sabotage the facility refinery thinking they have no stake in it. This news is not exactly great PR for the company despite its pure intention towards minimizing labour cost.

My question has no ethnic or tribal colouration to it. I would have asked same if 89 people were transported from Lagos to Katsina. From other comments, I am now able to deduce that the motive is cheaper labour, which makes economic sense to me. However, This news is not great PR for the company.

Let's look at the Niger Delta for example, most of the vocational jobs in the oil companies are ceded to the locals, except it is confirmed that there are no body skilled in that particular area before they go outside to source for talents. This applies to even the more technical/administrative roles, a percentage is set aside for the indigenes. This gives them a sense of responsibility to protect the companies' assets at all cost. What if the youths of the local communities begin to sabotage the facilities of this great refinery under the pretext that they do not have a stake in it?

Not every discussion should be viewed through the lense of tribalism, it makes you look stupid.

See this impostor here.

You're not even proud of your identity but pretending to be another person just to make a senseless point.

Chinedu, stop being obsessed with Yoruba matters as if your very existence depends on it. You have worse things to deal with in your less developed 5 plots of land.

Have you been to our government institutions? Many non-Yoruba full there.

How do you not prioritize your people when other states prioritize their own people?

As much as i agree that Dangote has the right to employ people from any part of the country to work for him, the logic of this recruitment beats me. It is the same logic CCECC employs in bringing Chinese labourers to work on road projects in Nigeria. Part of what Lagos State should benefit from Dangote siting his projects in Lagos should be the employment opportunities Lagosians can benefit from such projects or is it that the labourers from Katsina have special skills which those in Lagos do not possess? Over to you Aliko!

It’s typical of Nigerian businessmen to form trade clusters of their tribesmen in certain locations. For example, If you go to automobile spare parts locations like Ladipo, Trade Fair, Alaba, Idumota, etc , you will see people from the South East.
If you go to Cattle or foodstuffs locations like Kara, Agege, Mile 12,etc, you meet people from the North.

Very funny response indeed. So all the abokis young men hanging around every bus-stop, roundabout all over Lagos, Ibadan, Ogun state can not be recruited for dangote work but have to go to Katsina and bring them ba?

So Mr police you expec the recruiter to say they are terrorist or bandits ba?

I just dey laugh.
