Well, sorry but that is demonstrable nonsense. Families in nature come about when a man impregnates a woman. Any other family structure is secondary, therefore, and cannot always have existed. The only family structure that has always existed is the heterogenous family. Perhaps you meant to say homosexual relationships have always existed, but homosexual marriages and families are largely a creation of the 20th century, with very few exceptions whatsoever.

But all of this is you missing the point. The question is not what shapes and sizes families may come in, but what shapes and sizes are good for families. Science is clear on the success rates of children raised in stable families with a dad present. Science is also clear on the importance of having a mother for young children.

Seems clear and rather common-sensical if you just dial it down to logic as simple as the fact that diversity improves any organisation. Why would marriage be different?
