The other choice he probably gave him was too tough. I've watched two interviews he said he isn't forcing his son, that if he wants to be a doctor he doesn't mind. But the boy might not have the brains for medicine.

Abolishment of slavery in arab world.wasnt like in the US, each Arab countries abolished SLAVERY (Slave ownership) at diffrent time spreading over several years,last to abolish was mauritania which was 1981.Hence there was.no cordinated mass killing.of slaves.
Though SLAVE TRADE was abolished in most Arab countries in the late 1800 under pressure from.Ottoman empire,The British and The french.

Slaves served as plantation workers date, clove.and olives farming,domestic labour,concubinage,Eunuchs in royal courts and military slaves like mamluks

Slavery wasnt on a large scale in the Arab world unlike in the americas reason for their.small population now.
Besides,Arab owned slaves based on religion reason which forbids them from killing slaves. Islam strongly emphasis the humane treatment of slaves and their freedom.

There are currently Black arab in all arab countries, even in palestine and gaza! There is even African quaters in jerusalem.
