Dear fathers, husbands, and wives, when flaunting your influence or connections to evade law enforcement or paramilitary teams, please ensure you're not putting your family members at risk. The tragic incident in Ajah, where a pregnant wife lost her life due to her husband's disobidence to a stop instruction from the Police , is a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of such actions. It's utterly irresponsible, and in this case, the father has lost a son.

Given the nature of the driver's conduct, officers suspected possible criminal activity or a case of abduction. A police chase ensued. In an attempt to immobilize the vehicle, a police corporal discharged a firearm aimed at the tyres. Tragically, the bullet missed and struck Kehinde Alade ‘m’, who was seated in the rear seat behind the driver, Nigeria is a Zoo country now I know better ,why can they use his number plate to get him again huh? I know this can never happen in overseas countries ,Police corporal only God know how many bottle he took day before the day

I hope you later discovered that skeleton in the cupboard after wasting that innocent boy's life?
It's terrible how you guys swallow whatever the police dish out and believe them.
This is the same egregious thing you do whenever this same police comes out with their usual distortion of facts to justify their crimes in the SE.
You people always reason with emotion. You didn't talk about the driver bad character. You didn't talk about he was driving recklessly with his children on board. STOP REASONING WITH YOUR EMOTION.

Why do people twist issues so wilfully?

You read all this and still made it about driving against traffic??

I'm not even saying the police were right to use live fire. But such unintelligent approaches to discussion set these discussions up for failure.
Well said , the tragic event makes us forget the recklessness of the driver cost him a son.

Police in the zoo are night mare to car owners.
They set up roadblocks for only one reason, to extort money from road users. Everyone tries to avoid them, I guess that was why the car didn't stop.

It seems to be inborn in you people to defend bad govt and her oppressive agents

How did you quickly conclude the man has bad character and was driving recklessly?

Because the police, an unreliable entity, said so in her desperate bid to defend herself, as usual??
Did you do your own investigation?

I don't believe the Police account of aiming at the tyres and hitting the victim who was sitting behind the driver.... the back windshield should've been shattered if that really happened. But looking at one of the photos the right back door window seems to be broken. If so....then I would believe they were aiming to hit the driver but hit the passenger instead. However it turns out.... " in saner climes" the Police will not be charged .... but the driver will face .multiple charges including reckless driving and endangering the life of a minor. The driver is to be blamed period .... why didn't he stop? From the video ... they had him cornered and instead of surrendering he sped away. What if he had hit innocent pedestrians or crashed into other vehicles causing deaths? Is it then we would be shouting why didn't the Police shoot to stop him? I'm on the side of the Police on this one ...no need to cover up. Let it send a message to others.... you try to run from the Police ...expect to be shot.
This one na police officer justifying themselves

That the government is bad or oppresive does not excuse the father driving the wrong way on a one way road, and refusing to obey police commands.

About the only criticism of the government and the police is that there are non-lethal ways to stop the car, which the NPF don't have because poor funding.

Why use the uselessness of the APC government to justify the bad thing the driver did.? If he had killed someone driving the right way on the road, we will all be here screaming about the negligence of the police.

There are too many holes in this police report.

It's clearly garnished with lies

True, but the guy should not have driven the wrong way down a one way road.

The problem in Nigeria is we rightly criticize bad government and bad behavior of its agents...but we keep quiet when ordinary citizens don't obey simple laws.

Let's assume they let the man alone, and he hit someone who was driving the right way up the road? What would you say.

In the end, bad behaviour of the police aside, the man used his hand do himself. Drives the wrong way, refuses to obey law enforcement. Also drives pell mell at the cops. All criminal and suspicious behaviour.

And at the end, the government should fund the NPF, and get them non-lethal methods of law enforcement. Not just guns all the time.

SO also are drivers who disobey traffic rules
1. I have almost been knocked down by a driver jumping a clear red light. And the guy could not deny he saw the light.

2. I have also been almost hit by drivers driving the wrong way up a road, like the man in this case.

Yeah police should have not used lethal force, but you have a government that does not fund them well enough for non lethal options...eg road spikes. But the man was deliberately disobeying traffic rules. And let's be honest, he could have killed someone

Chai. Whoever drafted this press release needs sanction. Imagine that paragraph 4? Looking at the attached pix clearly shows that d bullet was not shot from the rear as the rear shield is still intact. But why on earth would a police shot live ammunition in such area? The casualty could be more than one. Who aims live ammunition at a tire of a moving vehicle from the rear? Shior. You claimed to suspect a case of abduction, but it's you that now gunned down the supposed victim. But why was the man driving against traffic and didn't stop for police. It's within the city now.
It was most likely ak47 which is hard to use for a target.

Majority of police officers are not smart. So they expect the public to accept this lame excuse with out asking questions. Anyway, the society we find ourselves is flawed

Whether you obey laws or don't in Nigeria you will be hit stray bullet from untrained and illiterate law enforcement, and they will lie against it.
People are killed everyday in this country for no just reason, and the matter is always swept under the carpet.
Tell those policemen on traffic who might be collecting bribe on that traffic to go to Borno State to joining in fighting Bokoharam or ISWAP with at same energy, they will refuse.

Stop this defense game, before it happens to you or your family relative.

All of you are still following the same path, like a sheep to the slaughter house.

What's your independent, verified evidence that the man was driving against traffic and persistently refused to stop when asked to do so??

Don't tell me you believe because the police said so!

Ok. Keep driving down the wrong side of the road, and jumping red lights. You love disobeying laws, and you will call for good government

And because I disagree with you, I support bad government? Are you dumb?

Good morning.

Well, having almost been hit and injured by people disobeying traffic laws like the man, I have no sympathy for him.

And the fact I have no sympathy for him, does not mean that the government too is wrong for not funding the police well enough so that they can use non lethal methods.

Continue disobeying laws. Anarchy is something you guys like.

Imagine application of live bullet against traffic offenders in our constitution, it would have affected any member of your family by now.
and when he was driving against traffic, one of your family members was killed? Read what I wrote again and come back to your senses.

I want to strongly suggest to the federal government to ban the police from use of guns in public spaces.
Police were initially not allowed to use guns but bats..

nonentity full this forum. I've almost been knocked down by someone driving against traffic, and the fool was still claiming his rights sha. If one of their family members has been killed in such situation, I believe they will also support the police stance

Would have been surprised if the Press Release said otherwise.

Bullet aimed at a vehicle tyre missed the target to kill someone inside the vehicle! What degree did the officer aimed the nozzle or the car just sink to the bullet inclination?

The press release is true. And luckily there is a video to back it up.

The father himself must be a criminal. You have your child in the car and you were dragging the road with officers like that. What if it wasn't shooting, what if it ended up in an accident. You didn't even consider your child was with you.

Now he has unfortunately lost his son because of his stupid rage.

He caused the needless death. What a pity. His wife should tear him to pieces
sincerely

..... the main question here is WHY WAS THE MAN DRIVING AGAINST TRAFFIC AND REFUSED TO STOP, I suppose he was daring the police to shoot and they did, he therefore caused the death of the 14 yr old because of his irresponsible and reckless actions.

Unprofessional police force. Must they shoot in such scenario. Judging by the magnitude of population in that Gbagi area especially in afternoon, those trigger happy policemen shud hv shot now. Why can't they keep chasing the car until he's caught.

C'mon. And it's not asif the driver was armed like we used to hv in US,even in US I to watch video of police car chases without shooting.

This what happens when u recruits 18 years old into police and leave behind experienced and and mature citizens who can use their discretion to act professionally when under pressure. What a sad commentary
.... you deliberately failed to mention why the driver decided to drive against traffic.

Rip to the deceased. But why was the father driving against traffic? If the press release is true, the police has no fault in this issue. The father also needs to be arrested and charged to court. And lastly, the police needs training in handling their rifle
....I concur here, a full grown up man teaching his son how to be irresponsible by driving against traffic.
