The word "submerged" seem to have different meaning to the OP.
I wonder oo, I watched it twice to see submerged vehicles but I saw none. As serious as it looks, is not entirely the fault of government. Most drainage in lekki phase one are not functioning. Is anything wrong with me if I clear the drainage in front of my house? I know government is not trying but we need to help ourselves.

Lagos as a coastal city need a very good drainage system and strict laws guiding it but unfortunately, those in charge especially in the ministry of environmental are not really serious about it.
Some people raised alarm that Lagos is smelling some time ago
I don't really blame Sanwo-olu because it seems most of the contracts for management of public utilities are awarded to party bigwigs and political patrons rather than competent companies.

These things happen not only in Lagos but most of the states in Nigeria.

Well, Lagosians are used to such lifestyle which shortens lifespan.

Everyone knows lekki is under sea level before buying a property or getting accommodation there. And at times like this you have no choice than to accept what natire throws at you. When you're already aware of a squirrel infested land but you still go ahead to plant groundnut on it, you have no one to blame but yourself when the squirrels eventually eat up the groundnuts

What's the essence of living in highbrow area when flash flood can be your next minute guest during rain season?

Anyway, big man, big problem.

As weather conditions change and raining season has fully begun in Nigeria, It’s the yearly anniversary of water flooding lekki as usual, a man complains about the amount of used condoms floating in the flood , with vehicles also stuck in the water which has risen above knee level.

Lawmaker scores Lagos Water Corporation low

A Lagos State lawmaker, Mr Saka Fafunmi, on Thursday expressed dissatisfaction at the performance of the state Water Corporation.

Fafunmi, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA), said in Ikeja that the corporation had not been able to justify statutory allocations to it.

The lawmaker, who represents Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency 1 at the assembly, spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He said that the corporation had the capacity to generate much fund internally through water rates but had relied solely on government funding because of poor performance.

'' Anyone that is using water will be willing to pay for it; the corporation has not been giving us water.

"Is there any new community that Water Corporation has given water? People depend on boreholes; even government estates have industrial boreholes.

"Why do we keep pumping money into an agency that does not give us the desired results?'' he asked.

He noted that the Adiyan Waterworks was located at Ifako-Ijaiye, where many of the residents had resorted to digging boreholes as a means of getting water.

''A lot of people are falling sick because they don't drink clean water.

''In the same compound, where you have sewage, is where you have a borehole.

''There is no way you can manage the sewage that it will not leak and pollute the water; everyone drinking such is drinking contaminated water,'' he said.

The lawmaker urged the corporation to increase water reticulation and supply to residents.

yes, 80% drainage issues. My office is in lekki-phase-1. the existing drainage systems were not deep and wide enough which is bad but the worst of all, they're blocked and most houses dont maintain them. Some area with proper drainage and well maintained they don't have flood problem in the same lekki-phase-1.

Not only on island. The whole Lagos as a whole.

If flood didn't destroy your home. Government will demolished with one nonsense excuse or the other. Couple with the high rate of agbero and owomida you will pay and settle just to build your house.

Lagos is the last place I will build a house or a property. I will rather rent a house. But build, never! I won't try it.

I am one of the oldest residents of Phase 1 , seen it all , Phase 1 is what you call peninsula and unfortunately it's actually below see level and during raining season it goes below the Lagoon , very similar to what you have in Netherland,no gravity drainage can fix this it will will take whole more like lifting it higher or using pumps just like the dutch do
