It goes to show how babaric those in power can be when power-drunk yet these same people would never find a way to jail those responsible for littering our country with corruption which in itself is a greater crime! A fine would have sufficed in this case coupled with community service like you mentioned, this is what is being done in 'saner climes' but you see a lot of us who like quoting 'saner climes' saying that it should be jailed for life in the comments section. Why? Have we lost our sense of humanity that much? What provision has the local and state government made to ensure refuse is being collected by LASMA again in 'saner climes' that is being done at least once a week!

This is exactly why Nigeria as a whole needs total overhaul, the country is a strange place to live in...

In as much as I do not support lawlessness, the way this man was quickly located and prosecuted, the same is not so for the radical herdsmen, bandits that are killing people indiscriminately and also politicians that are looting the country treasury.

Very good...face some prison time ...he wasn't littering ...he was dumping. He should be heavily fined and made to do months of community service ....cleaning the streets and gutters. In this way the City will kill two birds with one stone ... maintaining clean streets and drains ....and saving on salaries. The laws should be changed to up the fines a whole lot. Most importantly...the City should first provide adequate litter bins for pedestrians and commuters to put their trash.

That is why Nigeria will find it difficult to progress as a nation, politicians who steal our common wealth are working the streets free. Ganduje was caught openly stuffing dollars in his babariga. Orji uzor was sentenced to prison and later freed and is also working the streets today free. Numerous cases I can't mention. But a common man is being thrown into prison because of throwing trash indiscriminately.

I agree. Despicable as his actions are, remanding him in prison is too harsh. Haba.

Another pertinent question is what has the LASG done on the issue of waste disposal management? This should be addressed instead of resorting to scape goatism

Community service would have been a perfect punishment. Attach a Lawma supervisor to him and make him to be using his car that he used in littering the area he was caught to be the same car he would be using to carry waste from areas to the dump site. Let him do that for good 4 hours everyday for the next 3 months. That would have been a great lesson..... And he must always wear Lawma coverall while doing this work....

This man drove with the waste in his SUV all the way.....which means there was probably no place to dispose the waste properly around him.

Both the LASG and the man arrested are culpable. What is Lagos doing with all its taxes and IGR? A cosmopolitan city without adequate waste disposal strategies?

You don't live in Lagos. Each house is expected to have a Refuse bin and register with a LAWMA ( waste) operator..
It's like 2k monthly for a flat.

answering any question to which an inspector may require an

(e) to fail to comply with the requirements of an enforcement notice
or a suspension notice;



(f) to fail, without reasonable excuse, to comply with any requirement
imposed by a notice under any Regulation made pursuant to
section 19 of this Law.



(g) to make a statement which he knows to be false or misleading in a
material particular, or recklessly make a statement which is false or
misleading in a material particular, where the statement is made –



(i) in purported compliance with a requirement to furnish any
information or under any provision of this Law or any Regulations
made pursuant to section 19 of this Law; or



(ii) for the purpose of obtaining the grant of a permit to himself or any
other person, or the variation, transfer or surrender of a permit;



(h) to intentionally make a false entry in any record required to be kept
under the condition of a permit;



(i) with intent to deceive, to forge or use a document issued or
authorised to be issued under a condition of a permit or required
for any purpose under a condition of a permit or to make or have
in his possession a document so closely resembling any such
document as to be likely to deceive;

(j) to fail to comply with an order made by a court.



(2) A person guilty of an offence under sub-section 1 (a), (b), (d) or (i) of this
section shall be liable –

(b) on summary conviction, in the case of a corporate body to a fine
not less than N2,000,000 (Two Million Naira);



(c) on conviction on indictment, in the case of an individual to a fine

any such capacity, he as well as the body corporate shall be guilty of that
offence and shall be liable to be proceeded against and punished

who has 4 months to waste to supervise the werey ? Just seize his car and auction it. That's the punishment
