HPS MEDIA CONGRATULATES H.E. PHILIP SHAIBU ON HIS APPOINTMENT AS DIRECTOR GENERAL, NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF SPORTS

The entire HPS Media Team heartily congratulates our principal and boss, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, on his well-deserved appointment as the Director General of the National Institute of Sports (NIS).

This national recognition is not just timely, but befitting of a man whose life’s journey has been deeply rooted in sports, leadership, and national development. This appointment is a classic example of putting a square peg in a square hole.

As the former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Comrade Shaibu’s unmatched passion for sports development was evident. Under his stewardship as the overseer of sports in Edo, the state witnessed a historic revival in football and other sporting disciplines. Bendel Insurance Football Club was not only revived from obscurity but rebranded into a formidable force in Nigerian football. Edo Queens flourished with new energy and purpose, becoming a beacon of women’s football excellence. The Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium became a world-class facility, hosting national and international tournaments under his watch.

His tenure marked the golden era of sports in Edo — an era that redefined youth engagement, talent development, and sports infrastructure in the state.

As a former international footballer, Comrade Shaibu brings invaluable first-hand experience to the Nigerian Institute of Sports. His track record as a distinguished sports administrator and policy maker further assures us that this appointment will usher in a new dawn for sports development nationwide.

We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for identifying and appointing an exceptional Edo son to such a pivotal role. This singular act is a testament to the President’s commitment to competence and national development.

We are confident that Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu will bring innovation, discipline, and visionary leadership to the National Institute of Sports, setting new benchmarks for sports excellence in Nigeria and beyond.

He has been a politician right from his school days. I was in the convention in Bauchi when he won NANS president and took over from Tijani Kabiru from ABU Zaria. Even Tijani Kabiru became NANS president following the death of Moses Osakede in a fatal accident.

Philip Shaibu is a man who knows his onions. Yes, I think he will be Edo state gov one day.

DG of a Federal Agency is far bigger than any Deputy Governor in Nigeria.

If he had supported Obaseki by not contesting for governor and supporting Igbodalo, what exactly would he have benefited than this Federal appointment? Make it make sense please.
