Back in those days, we were made to believe that newly bought phones should be charged for at least about 10 hours. Even after the phone become filled, we would still leave it plugged in for hours.

Original lithium ion or lithium polymer battery won't mind if you charge it with generator or start using it at 50% 1st time.

@op I don't know how old you are(no pun intended). But back in the days when you get a new phone the instructions were to make sure you fully charge the batteries and do it for some hours.
It has now become a "myth" like you wrote. I think people are still stuck in the old ways.

Never done this Right from my first phone in 2002.
But When you look back and think of how 90% of the populace that followed such a hogwash idea (even till now) are still the same people that have become public advisors and influencers (thanks to wide use of internet), it makes you wonder the pool of people we are mixed with and the extent of mental decay that has "successfully" affected the society.

Myth or no myth me myself and I will charge any new phone I buy. Habits die hard

Someone will always say to my hearing that charging a Phone with Generator instead of NEPA light kills a Phone and doesn't charge very well.

It's no myth.
Mobile Phone Battery technologies have evolved over the last 3 decades and modern batteries no longer need this step.
