Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, Former Rivers Governor, Rotimi Amaechi and the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, are currently attending the National Political Consultative Group (North) meeting in Abuja, News360 Nigeria reports.

The high-level gathering has attracted prominent political figures, party leaders, and elder statesmen as discussions intensify over a possible grand coalition among Nigeria’s opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.


Earlier reports had indicated that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was being considered as a neutral political platform to drive the proposed coalition, providing a common ground for various opposition parties.

However, while former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has openly stated he would not dump the PDP for any coalition vehicle, Labour Party’s Peter Obi has equally insisted he would run on the platform of his current party.

Despite these positions, sources say the coalition talks are progressing with an understanding that alliances can still be forged without necessarily dissolving individual party structures. Stakeholders are reportedly exploring frameworks for collaboration on candidate endorsements, policy coordination, and electoral strategy.

The meeting is expected to issue a communique at its conclusion as coalition negotiations continue to gather momentum among opposition figures determined to challenge the dominance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

I love how Obi is tormenting the ApC online bandits. Now, they are confused. They don’t know if Obi will agree to be Atiku’s vice, they don’t know if Atiku will step down for Obi, they don’t know what elrufia is planning, they don’t know the party the coalition will use, they don’t know why a lot of people are decamping to their party, they are unsure if spies are among the people coming to APC. They are confused.
