I was accused of using love potion,

I was accused of money ritual

They also accused me of the enrollment of children in PUBLIC SCHOOLS

PUBLIC SCHOOL VERSUS PRIVATE SCHOOL

Good day Mr. Chairman, panel of judges, honourable time keeper and my co debaters. My name is HIGHBEE DENDE and I'm here to support the motion which says PUBLIC SCHOOL IS BETTER THAN PRIVATE SCHOOL.

To put the horse before the cart, what's public school? Public schools are learning institutions owned by government at all levels: local, state and federal governments whereas private schools are owned by individuals who are business minded. Below are some of my reasons for supporting the motion.

Firstly, public schools have enough human and material resources, teachers are recruited based on academic qualifications and areas of expertise; subject to teach is based on your area of specialization while government provide all necessary materials for effective teaching and learning; construction and renovation of classrooms, well equipped science laboratory and library, provision of instructional materials etc. Seasoned teachers that are tech savvy are readily available to teach various subjects. A typical example is LAWAL RUKAYAT OLADUNNI; a product of Loyal College School II, Ibadan, who combined ART, COMMERCIAL and SCIENCE subjects in her NECO result. No professional school counselor that could guide her when she's in SS1. Is LOYOLA COLLEGE a miracle center? Another example is ABDULKABIR ADIGUN who can not construct a simple sentence without committing GRAMMATICAL BLUNDERS. This set of people claimed to be products of PRIVATE SCHOOLS.

Secondly, curriculum is designed based on age of learners while government provide materials such as textbooks to implement the content of the curriculum, the curriculum is well structured. It's uncommon to see children/pupils in public schools skipping a class in the name of DOUBLE PROMOTION. Private schools depend entirely on the curriculum and textbooks designed for public schools (UBE edition).

Furthermore, the competition in public schools is very high. A classroom may contain about 40-45 students, this will give enough room for brainstorming, cross fertilization of ideas among the students/pupils unlike private schools where you have about 5-10 students in a class.

Also, as I have already pointed out in my introductory paragraph, private schools are business oriented; the tuition/school fee is very high, they tend to milk the parents dry. In a case of DIVORCE, the mother will also use the opportunity to INFLATE the tuition to satisfy her own needs; since the father will be solely responsible for the payment of school fees. This can never happen in public schools, no principal or headmistress will charge above the government approved tuition, anyone that does that will be sanctioned accordingly. The tuition in public schools is verifiable. The school fees in private schools do not commensurate with the knowledge impacted, they are only deceiving the gullible parents, especially the illiterate ones like IYA RUKA. A typical NIGERIAN MENTALITY.

Rebuttal, I heard my opponents (IYA RUKA ologogoro and her AGBENUSO neighbour) saying that the exorbitant fee paid in private schools is a testament that private schools are better than public schools. Well, if she had the opportunity to attend either public or private schools, she won't be selling OGOGORO at her old age. Her parents were so poor to sponsor her education, despite the fact that education was almost FREE when she was growing up.

In summary, with my vast experience as a science teacher in both private and public schools, as an examiner (WAEC and NECO), I can vouch that public school is still the best. During WAEC and NECO accreditations, public school teachers are hired by private school owners to teach and defend some subjects; especially in science. They do HIRE ME, this is because the private school owners can not afford to recruit competent teachers.

Conclusion, with the above points highlighted I hope I have convinced and not confused the audience that public school is far, far, better by far than the private schools.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR RAPT ATTENTION

I am afraid there is little to no truth to these conclusions of yours, given the Nigerian situation. I suggest you stay away from these meaningless claims and focus instead on tackling reality as it presents itself. undecided

Have you seen an Ogogoro sell build an ethanol company before? He made his arguments and they aren't meaningless claims.

Op do your best and enroll your children In a private school (if you can go an extra mile to afford it)... It's part of the sacrifice of being a father.

Why should an Ogogoro seller have a need to build an ethanol company, though? A seller is into sales, not manufacturing. So why try to force a narrative that makes no sense whichever way you slice it? huh

I've seen a retail pure water seller become a manufacturer. I've also seen a lady who hawks agbo become a wholesale distributor of sachet alcoholic beverages. So,there's nothing wrong if an ogogoro seller delves into manufacturing. Everyone needs to upgrade.
