I can't possibly summarise everything that weakens us as a team, so I mentioned the crucial points.

Before we can even be serious about competing. We need 2 world class CBs, not one. Think Saliba, Van Dijk level CBs. Competing in the PL and the CL at the same time is no joke.

Enzo is not the only midfielder we have but he makes us incredibly, technically and tactically unbalanced in the middle. Also, politically, because we spent 100m on him, coach after coach has a political mandate to protect the asset in the club's interest. Whereas many he needed dropping, it didn't happen. We could have bought Guimares and McAllister combined for less, and still have change to buy Guiu.

We need to proceed as though Lavia will continue to have fittness issues. A Caicedo, Essugo and Santos middle 3 is strong and combative defensively, but lacks dynamism, and experience offensively.


Madueke, Sancho, and Neto forward line is unproductively weak, offensively. Few goals, few assists. Whilst I don't mind keeping them for fixture load, they cannot be our first choices going into the season. If they are, we should concentrate on the league and forget competing in the UCL.

FYI, FIFA has given Chelsea and the other Club World Cup teams a special transfer window between June 1 - 10.

So we should be able to get more leeway to conduct crucial transfers

I deliberately didn’t mention Felix and Sterling because I genuinely don’t believe they’ll be part of the squad next season — they haven’t impressed during their loan spells. I’d bet they’re either going back out on loan or getting sold to any club willing to take them. As for Nkunku, I’m convinced we’ll move him on this window; I just don’t see where he fits in the current setup.

In my post, I only focused on the wingers we’ve consistently seen this season — the ones we’re most likely to carry into next season, unless we manage to upgrade. Ideally, I’d like to see all three gone, or at least two of them.

Madueke, for example, plays like someone who thinks he’s already arrived or performing at his best, when it’s clear he has more to give. The problem is, he might not actually be better than what we’re seeing. His decision-making is still poor for his level. Personally, I’d loan him out or sell him with a buy-back clause, just in case he suddenly figures it out.

As for Neto, I like his effort and desire — you can tell he tries — but he’s clearly flawed. For someone who’s been in the Premier League for a few years, there’s been little real progress. Unless something drastic changes, I don’t see much improvement coming. Unfortunately, I doubt he’ll be easy to offload, so we might be stuck with him for now.

Anyway, I just hope we can do some smart business this summer, especially in those wide areas. We badly need support options who can actually contribute with goals and assists.

we need to be able to clear our books and bring in quality and frankly until we do so, I don't see us adding any quality winger. Our hit and hope tactics hasn't worked so far. Imagine if money wasn't wasted on felix and neto, we would be going full throttle for rodrygo. We could have managed nkunku and sterling for one more season isn't of adding similar players wasting funds. Currently there's no viable option in the market for goals and assists and I don't support another hit and hope purchase, we even haven't seen the outcome of 100m spent on estevao and quenda. We can't trust the stats of foreign leagues, look at pulisic being top ten prolific winger in europe, has been better than leao.
