Osun 2026: No To Alliance Says Aregbesola, As Cold War With Gov Adeleke Brews by TimeManager(op): 4:36pm On May 26, 2025
A former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, has shut against any plan to seek coalition with his group ahead of the 2026 governorship election in the state.

Aregbesola disclosed this while speaking at a reception organised by the Omoluabi Progressives, a political group he founded to mark his 68th birthday celebrations held in Osogbo on Sunday.

The former Minister of Interior, who said by his next birthday, his group would be close to the Osun Governor’s Office in Abere, also noted that during birthday celebrations, it is always important to pray for one’s mother in appreciation of the pains of childbirth.

“By this time next year, we will all be close to Abere (Osun Governor’s Office). May God make it so.

“So, people are having untrue impression that we will align with anyone (in the governorship poll).
“We are not going to align with anyone. We are going to pursue our political interest separately.
“No alliance with anyone of group. By the grace of God, this group will win.

“We will contest and we will win. The election that will follow that of next year….”, Aregbesola said.

Expressing appreciation to the organisers for the honor done to him, the ex-governor on the significance of prayers for mothers during birthday celebrations also said,

“I am happy for this honor. I pray for you all, may you continue to succeed in all your endeavors.
“Whenever you are celebrating birthday, during the celebration, always remember to pray for your mother.

“The pains they endure during childbirth is enormous. So whether alive or late, birthday celebrations should be dedicated to prayers for mothers.”

Speaking earlier, the Secretary to Osun State Government during Aregbesola’s tenure as governor, Moshood Adeoti, told members of the Omoluabi Progressives to remain committed to the group’s ideals.

The representative of Osun State Governor, Biyi Odunlade, lauded Aregbesola’s contributions to the development of Osun describing his legacies as exemplary.

“I celebrate you because you left a good template for good governance in Osun State that can not be faulted by anybody.

“Your legacy of service is exemplary and remarkable, one that stands you out among your contemporaries,” Adeleke said.

The event was attended by many members of the Omoluabi Progressives, Aregbesola’s political associates from Lagos and ex appointees from Osun State.

A cold war

A cold war has been brewing between Adeleke and Aregbesola over their performances in office, unknown to many.

In the last few weeks, Adeleke and Aregbesola have taunted each other at public functions in what appeared a sign of frosty relationship.

At a Rotary District Conference in Ede, Osun State, Aregbesola, who was the guest speaker, spent quality time to reel out his achievements. He spoke of how he transformed Osun State.

But Adeleke, who came midway into Aregbesola’s lecture was ‘unsettled ‘ by what his predecessor said.

When it was his turn, Adeleke, who took style to say he was building on Aregbesola’s achievements, said the era of half salary was gone; he has not borrowed a dime; the Debt Management Office (DMO) has confirmed that the state has cleared 40% of inherited debt since he came into office.

He also said that he has completed a 14-kilometre dual carriageway in Ilesha and established University of Ilesha with 70 courses accredited.

“It is a matter of time before we end the alliance with Aregbesola, ” a PDP source added.

Davido was in Abuja prostrating for President Tinubu over the weekend, introducing members of his crew to Tinubu and that was shortly after hanging out with Seyi Tinubu. Is something fishy or just another optics?. Time shall tell

Presently adeleke is stranded cos he miscalculated in the last election n now it's time to face d consequences of his actions.

He thought Atiku would win the general election so he gave everything to Atiku but unfortunately Tinubu won n the governorship election will definitely be before the presidential election.

As it stands now, he knows Atiku is going nowhere and he knows he can only survive if the federal wants it.

So he doesn't know if to fully leave d PDP or fully support Tinubu

Lol
I like what he is doing.
He is trying to be a lone wolf opposition in Osun to wrestle power from the titans like APC and PDP.

He's in ADC.

Why can't these former Governors disappear from the scene after their tenure like Sullivan Chime and Willie Obiano?

After everything they looted, they still want some more. What did they forget in the government house?

After your tenure, retire and disappear.. No. They won't. Never tired

What has the federal got to do with osun elections? Adeleke performance will speak for him not political calculations and gymnastics.

if you understand Osun politics very well, you will know that Aregbesola is currently the biggest deciding factor. He is one of the smart grassroot politicians Osun is parading now.

Aregbesola is planning to support an indigine of Osogbo which will be too dangerous for both APC and PDP.
Oyetola and SRJ had both stepped down fron the race which is also another sign that something big is cooking up in Osun.politics.As it stanfs now, Gov Adeleke himsef.knew that its only GOD and TINUBU that can rescue him.Thats the more reason the Adelekes ate lobbying the presidency.Recently, all the serving senators from Osun unanimously endorsed Tinubu for second term.

Now we will know Aregbesola political weight...he go still romance alliance to cover face laslas
