In Nigerian politics, there has long been an informal understanding: presidential appointments should carefully balance the country's many ethnic and religious differences. Today, there are growing concerns that this is being ignored.https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/ce9v2m7k988o

There is no written law that says so so and so positions should go to North, same way there is no law that says Yorubas can't hold key portfolios in Nigeria. You lots will be the first to label others tribalists but y'all are the ones most vocal over tribe of the President's appointees.. if that doesn't make you lots tribalists as well, then I wonder what the yardstick is to tag some as tribalists. When GEJ completely marginalized Yorubas, did you see Yorubas making mockery of themselves all over the news like some of you are doing today? No. Our people simply restrategized politically and sent the Yoruba hater packing. That strategy has placed Yorubas at a great advantage today and Yorubas deserve all the positions and benefits we've been denied for years. I also look forward to the next INEC Chairman who MUST be a Yoruba man and not a Mohammed or Nwosu. A Yoruba Professor must and will head INEC next. |

Dear BBC, you and your ancestors started the ethnic wahala by joining North with the South and handing over Nigeria to incompetent North. |

The tribalism and bigotry is so bad under Tinubu that it prompted a BBC article. They will soon send their attacks dogs to "debunk" it |

Nothing like ethnic balancing in Nigeria... The igbos are highly marginalized... Even the Senate deputy president said it.. But covered up with.. it must have been an ommission |

Tinubu is a big disappointment, even most of His Yoruba Muslims will support Peter Obi in the next election, we thought Tinubu had something to offer, despite removing subsidy nothing have changed |

Like Buhari like Tinubu. Ethnic champions hardly do well in power. |

Is BBC trying to instigate violence against the Nigerian people? Your colonisation brought unnecessary amalgamation, violence and corruption in Africa. Africa media need to step up in exposing the massive corruption going on in Western countries. Nigeria Federal Character began to putrefy from Jonathan and buried by Buhari's terrible govt. Although every region should be well represented but it's not the job of BBC to tell us, they never mean well for us anyway. |

flokii:how did jonathan "completely marginalise yorubas"? if you say "Yorubas deserve all the positions and benefits we've been denied for years", what are those positions and benefits? since you are a yoruba, which of the positions and benefits have you received thus far? by the way, I thought Tinubu is a democrat? |

tinubu messed up with his highly ethnic biased key appointments. Even Jonathan and buhari didn't appoint only their region in key possession. |

Greed leads to winner takes all mentality. This benefits few people in the short term but damages the society unity and cohesion for generations to come. The current acts of APC since 2015 will be referenced in the next 30years if Nigeria remains |

Tinubu will not be Nigeria's president forever. Neither will he live forever, no matter how much and hard he tries. Tinubu will die 10 years after he leaves power. He is already in his 80's then add 10 years to his age, he will be gone like others.

APC through the disaster called buhari started it, and now continued by disaster promax called Tinubu. By the time APC is done with Nigeria, there would be no Nigeria left to fight for. |

Very lopsided reporting. Who else noticed that all those complaining are northerners? Since the complaint is about Youruba appointees of the president, shouldn't BBC reach out to analysts from SS&SE for their views or is BBC speaking so loudly for only the northerners? |

I will think it capability that matters and not tribe... Funny how any situation can be adjusted to suit anyone at any point in time. Only thing is there'll be too many conflicts over same issue. |

flokii:In a government where all states and ethnic groups contribute to the Centre, such thoughts of madness should be internalized, not verbalized. You folks are hastening the dissolution of this contraption, and I can see it going the way of the Hutu-Tutsi war, where husbands and wives killed each other for being from different tribes. When you keep piling up hatred and division, its escalation will usually be thunderous. Whoever paid for your education should be compensated. They were clearly defrauded as you were never taught and clearly learnt nothing. |

No doubt Yorubas occupy key positions in this government However, since Obasanjo left office in 2007, how come no other president found any Yoruba person worthy to IGP, COAS, DG DSS, CG Customs, CG Immigration, CBN governor, NSE DG, SEC DG, DG NIA etc etc ![]() If Tinubu doesn't appoint Yorubas, nobody else will! ![]() |

Tinubu came with two points agenda, 1. Emi le kan 2. To continue where Buhari stopped. So he has never disappointed in any, poverty, hunger, suffering, high taxation, high cost of living, name them. He is also winning trophies- Poverty Capital of the World, improved position as one of the most corrupt Countries, etc. |
