What should be the income versus deduction per month?!!


I like to talk in practical terms, not tout around theories like an average economics crammer.


I will give you an instance...!

Canada deducts about 10% from lower incomes, and 12 to 15% from higher earners every month or salary cycle.

At the end, every dime is accounted for to the last cent.


Can an average Nigeria do the same in Nigeria?!!

Many oil rich countries are working without their citizens being turned to beast of burden.
Check Libya under Gaddafi, Kuwait, Qatar today.
Check their tax regimes and juxtapose that with that of Nigeria. Many businesses in China pay peanuts as taxes.

But here, an oil and gas rich country wants to tax her citizens into extinction. Dubai was built with oil money and not with proceeds from over taxation of the poor masses..

Show us what you have done with the trillions you collected as tax revenues and the trillions you collected as oil royalties . That will encourage folks to pay more.

I think the man was referring to income taxes.

If they want Nigerians to start paying taxes, they should be more responsible with the way the spend our money and be transparent with what they do with the money.

More importantly, there should be incentives for people who pay taxes. For instance, the government should randomly select a few business owners who have been compliant and appreciate them with 5x what they have paid in the past 5 years. You will see others rushing to pay their taxes to win such largesse.

I always say that leadership is not rocket science. We just have the dumbest among us running this country.

a more accurate statement from the chairman should have been most Nigerians ELIGIBLE for income tax payers do not actually pay income tax. All these mechanics, spare parts dealers, traders and even farmers dont pay income tax and many of them make millions a year.

We don't pay enough in tax as a nation. And that attitude to taxes is a big part of why we borrow, and why corruptuion is a serious matter ....because all the government money spent does not come from our pocket...so no incentive to ask questions.

The main reason Nigeria is incapable of meeting her OPEC quota is corruption; oil bunkering, under reporting of oil sales and barefaced corruption.

Tackle those and Nigeria will be exporting close to 5 million barrels a day.
You can't be stealing your oil income while adding more to the burden of the poor through wild taxes..
