nairalandadeux:Whether it is going to be enough or not is not yet the issue. The issue is that whatever that is being earned as revenue from all these sources is being LOOTED.. You gerrit? If the little that can't go around is alrwdy being looted, how much more when the earnings are bigger..? Corruption is the issue.., the problem |

SarkinYarki:How?? Records show that only few Nigerians pay direct tax. If Nigerians have their way they will evade indirect tax. How many Nigerians of all levels pay capital gains tax and capital transfer tax? Nigerians from the president to the least person don't pay the right income tax. |

owobokiri:33 trillion naira before looting is our budget. For 200 million people Even if there is no looting, and there is, that still is not enough. That is where your government is failing you, past and present. They won't take us to where the developed nations are...making stuff the world needs. That is how to be rich. You are missing my point because you think I am here to defend tinubu, and that is why we can't have a coherent discussion, so continue belieiving the lies you are told. We can never be rich until we use our resources to make and innovate. |

Angelfrost:only a poorly educated person with poor english comprehension will disagree with someone and then make a comment that actually confirms what the person said. By the way it is not 45% according to NBS it is 92%, according to businessday they say it is 76% either way the vast majority of Nigerian activities are in the informal sector and participants dont pay income tax. I said income tax before another victim of our failed educational system jumps into my mention talking nonsense. If you had stopped to use your brain before posting you would have realised you are talking nonsense. Even the Federal govt has a total workforce of 1.1m. States together maybe another 1m, Dangote big as it is only employs 40,000 people, a bank as big as Zenith only employs 7,000 people, MTN only employs 2.000 people. So who are the formal sector enterprises that are employing Nigerians? Most Nigerian economic activity is in the informal sector and the vast majority of them are 1 man businesses who do not pay INCOME TAX.. VAT, LG tax, etc and other taxes legal or illegal is not the same as Income tax! https://businessday.ng/technology/article/informal-sector-accounts-for-76-7-of-nigerias-workforce-report/ According to NBS, "In Q3 2023, Nigeria's informal sector employed 92.3% of the workforce. This represents a slight decrease from the 92.7% reported in Q2 2023. The informal sector also accounts for a larger share of employment in rural areas (97.2%) compared to urban areas (87.5%). Additionally, women are more likely to be employed in the informal sector than men. " Your plumber, you electrician, mechanic, spareparts dealer market trader, market wholesaler, farmer, wholesaler in Tejousho market etc etc many of them make as low as 500k and up to multiple millions a month...they dont pay income tax. As your mechanic, plumber etc is charging you 20k for labour so also he is charging another 3 or 4 people that same day...before you know what he has made 20-100k in a day or 400k-2m in a month. A low level mechanic who makes only 10k a day makes more than a professor or permanent secretary. No professors or civil servant earn up to them but they pay income taxes because they are captured in the formal sector wheras all these informal sector workers dont. |

To get income tax from all income earners as is the case in well organized nations, you have to enforce a minimum wage on all employers of labor and that wage must be high enough to bear the tax. |

The tax those 19% paid am sure they can't account for it. Tax koor Tax ni, the government that is discouraging small businesses and killing the bigger one and make people go jobless. Skills are dieing everyday. You will buy fuel tire since there is no light, rent for business is so high so what's the essence of the tax collection again. |

nairalandadeux:You are confused and I'm trying to cure you of that confusion. That why I'm replying every mention from you. No one is saying that Nigeria does not need to earn more. I don't know how you came into that conclusion. What we are saying here is that even if the country earns more trillions today, it will be mismanaged because of corruption and maladministration. This is very simple but obviously you are too heady to see simple reason and common sense. How can the countrys resources be effectively utilised when corruption is always at an all time high? What was Nigerias budget undet OBJ? What is it today? Obviously larger today. But is there any quantum progression in terms of government deliveries on services and projects? No So why is that the case? Simple; Because as earnings/Budgets increased, corruption increased too! Deal with corruption first and manage whatever you have effectively and things will improve.. You don't even understand that the main reason the country is not earning as high as she could is because of wayward corruption.. |

Love800:This list is not exhaustive: - Business Premises - Signage - Environmental - Sanitation (different from environmental o) - Radio/Television ![]() The list dey usually reach like seven yearly and they have different enforcement teams for each. My argument is that if these taxes/levies are properly streamlined, you will discover that most people in the informal sector pay more tax than they would otherwise have paid if they were in paid employment. So make anybody no dey do argument about Nigerians not paying income tax. |

Love800:The BRT is Bus Rapid Transport system managed by Lagbus or other corporate companies, to facilitate the moment of the people, it belong to the government but contracted out to companies who managed them, my point is if you calculate the unrecorded taxes and dues danfos and LT buses pays on a daily, it’s wrong for that man to say Nigerians don’t pay taxes If you buy new furniture and try to convey it to your house in Lagos, you will pay in many places before you get to your destination |

Every one knows the importance of paying tax. The question you should ask is why are people reluctant to pay tax? Federal Workers and employees of registered companies are "forced" to pay tax because it is deducted at source: given a choice they will not pay..Why? When the perception is that the taxes will not be put to work or the political class use the taxes to fund their excesses, why will anyone want to fund the lifestyle of a few from their hard-earned money? When the president moves in a 100-car convoy; that is tax payers money. When the president uses the presidential jet to UK and parks it for 107 days; that is tax payers money. Our leaders do not feel accountable to the people and do not feel they need to justify the use of public funds!! When people see their money put to good use; Good roads, Public transportation worth using, security, potable water from the taps etc.. a political class that don't turn to billionaires after a few years in power... then maybe, just maybe people will be willing to pay tax |

lawani:This is why I said pound for pound in relation to the meagre size of our economic activities. The heavy duties ta the port are taxes The High interest rates are a tax You pay VAT for everything you buy You pay local govt tax for every single thing you buy from local market You pay tax every time you enter a bus or Keke You pay police tax everyday when police extort people transporting goods around Then there is incompetence tax last week I ran into a big hole in Lekki EPE that destroyed my brand new tyre , I had to get na other tyre , that cost me 105k unplanned for , my brother that' a govt incompetence tax and yet these govt clowns want to keep saying Nigerians don't pay tax using personal income tax as an excuse ...if only 19 percent are paying personal income tax it's a reflection of the unemployment stats of the country which is also govts fault |

Themanleshey:Many Nigerians never see real tax They go to the UK, and see anemites and think the government sold 10 m barrels of oil and paid for all that...when the cold reality is that every city in the UK charges between 180-200 pounds in council tax, which you will pay on top of your income tax and VAT. That is how they can afford all those nice things in the uk. But in Nigeria, we dey use oil money to fool ourselves. Even during GEJ time, people who knew, and who were not opposing GEJ, were shouting that the money we earned was not enough at all. |

nairalanda1:Nigerians pay tax everyday in their shops. Tell your go to to use to be productive time with that money instead of siphoning it. Do you know how much transporters pay everyday. Ask me oluoma. Shops like idumota, main market onitsha rakes in billions every year. Where is the money? Even private cars pay tax to police. There is no angle Nigerian govt don't milk Nigerians from. So rest this your argument. A d the most annoying thing is we don't see any tangible thing they do with this money. |
