*Asue Ighodalo Rejects Appeal Court Ruling, Heads to Supreme Court Over Edo Governorship Dispute*

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Edo State governorship election, Asue Ighodalo, has rejected the ruling of the Court of Appeal, which upheld the declaration of Monday Okpebholo as the winner of the September 21, 2024 election.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Ighodalo expressed “deep disappointment” with the judgment, which he said, like the earlier Tribunal ruling, failed to address “widespread acts of non-compliance” and “clear violations of the Electoral Act.” He accused the Appeal Court justices of endorsing “a dangerous pattern of electoral impunity” that may undermine public trust in Nigeria’s democracy.

“Our struggle has never been about personal ambition,” Ighodalo stated. “It has always been about standing with the people of Edo State and defending their sacred right to freely choose their leaders through a credible, transparent, and fair election.”

He announced that his legal team had been instructed to file an appeal at the Supreme Court, expressing confidence that the apex court would uphold democratic principles and deliver justice. He urged supporters to remain peaceful, vigilant, and committed to the cause.

“The eyes of Edo people, and indeed all Nigerians, now look up to the Supreme Court with hope,” Ighodalo said.

The day the Nigerian Judiciary upheld an election in this country where prefilled polling unit results were used in an entire senatorial zone.. that was the day I gave up on them..

Almost like they worked with a predetermined end in mind, instead of the other way round..

looks like 'Justice being seen to have been done' is no longer in our judicial lexicon.

Everyone just do as they like these days..

Black man and stubborn head. After supreme court ruling, you go dey hear stuff like "our democracy has been kidnapped" grin

Your decision to take a matter to court shows your belief in the judiciary. Complaining about the judiciary only when a ruling doesn't go your way reveals hypocrisy. Any statements you make after the court's decision carry little weight.

Asue, just let go, my brother. Nigerian judiciary is so corrupt and can't be trusted to deliver a positive judgement. Even kids are aware of who won the Edo guber. Just let go.

I am fully in support of Asue Ighodalo pursuing this to the supreme court

The tribunal and the Appeal Court did a travesty of justice

Surely, this will be corrected at the SC and the stolen mandate returned

PDP had their turn, then opposition parties were crying.
Now APC is having their time now and opposition is weeping.
Another party will still come and opposition will still be wailing.
Nigeria politics na turn by turn. It's bad but, that's the truth.
So, ighodalo rest, your party had their time and today is APC while tomorrow will be another party.
Therefore, wait for your turn

Complete nonsense. And I say this with all sense of seriousness. The judiciary upheld Peter Obi's election when he demonstrated substantial non-compliance with the law. They did that for Bayelsa and Zamfara few years ago, despite the fact that the ruling party stands to benefit the most.

Asue can NOT prove his victory. It is short and simple. Let him go and work on his strategy on the field in the coming election cycle.

It's Asue today, it could be you tomorrow.. and you would need this Justice.

The ruling Party set out to take Edo and it should matter to any concerned citizen how they take it. We shouldn't condone impunity on a platter of expediency.

But seriously, who funds these politicians?

It is clear as daylight that the current governor will win the case in our corrupted courts.

Why can't he just find peace of mind, that head for the supreme court?

Or are the lawyers of Nigeria now using juju to talk to their clients to keep paying them on obviously wasteful legal journeys?

I am not surprised that the appeals were struck out.The SC will do the same .

1. The SC has placed prominence on results de cleared at the poling units ,ward, local government, and state collation centers. The IREV results are rubbish in Nigeria with a lot of judgements and that of the SC jettisioning them.
Ighodalo will lose again in SC

2 If you prove a case of noncompliance , Evidence Act demands you call voters ,polling agents, and presiding officers to prove the case .It should not be based on analysts solely.
How many did Ighodalo call?

3. If you claim there was an infraction in 144 wards that means witnesses should come in about 110 wards . If 5 are called in each of them ,how many witnesses will testify? How many did Ighodalo call?
Sentiments apart,it will be difficult with the position of the SC to overturn election where a person wins in 10 local governments out of 18 and declare another person as winner.
It must be proved beyond every reasonable doubt.
