A wave of terror swept through Agan community, located just a few kilometers from Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, as suspected herdsmen launched a violent attack on Thursday evening, leaving several people feared dead and many others severely injured.

According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants stormed the community around 6:00 p.m., opening fire indiscriminately and setting homes on fire in a coordinated and brutal assault. The suddenness and ferocity of the attack caught residents off guard, throwing the once-quiet settlement into chaos and panic.

Agan is not even in the bush o. Agan is a settlement within Makurdi itself practically. Agan is about 10 minutes drive from the Benue state government house. Nigerian police has 2 check points set up just to harass and extort drivers right in the heart of Agan.

One of Nigerian army's biggest military formations, 72 Bn is next door to Agan. And yet this attack could happen. Such a shame.
