Hello,

With the DS-160 and your appointment confirmation letter, you are all set. You don't need to fill any other form.

Be sure to confirm the DS-160 number on your appointment letter is the exact DS-160 you want the visa officer to evaluate for your application.
Okay, thanks

Pls I need some advise , recently I was given a 221(g) form for my H1b interview. The consular discovered that the petitioner on her system is different from what is in i797b approval. Then she noted some documents I need to come with on my 221g form to summit at the OIS service centre where my original transcript is part of the documents. Though I HV all these documents she asked me to bring. My questions now are:
(1) Will these documents be returned BK to me most especially my original transcript?
(2) Why was it that the petitioner's name appearing on the cansular system or at the embassy is different from what I HV in i797b approval notice? All the correspondences I HV been receiving from USCIS bring out my correct petitioner's name.

Hello,

From my experience, having a relative in the US does not indicate your chances are slim. It can in fact improve your chances because you have a legitimate reason to visit the US.

Go ahead and apply and be truthful about the relatives you have in the US and their status.

Bear in mind that it is vital to demonstrate ties to Nigeria i.e. all visa applicants are assumed to have immigration intent and you more so because of your relative. The burden lies on you to show you have reasons to return home to Naija.

Good day everyone , pls I would like to ask a couple questions . I want to apply for a visit visa to go see my mom she’s a green card holder , I would like to know if I stand any chance because in the past I was told if you have a relative or know someone your chances are slim , any one with similar experience or have knowledge of how I can go around this pls help 🙏🏾

Hello everyone . Please my dependant and I were had an appointment on the previous platform for a student visa but couldn't attend before the platform was moved to AVITS. I have been migrated and been able to reschedule my interview but I am unable to reschedule my daughter even after raising tickets and sharing her payment receipt. They keep saying there's no record of previous profile for her with an unused payment.

She was always registered under my email in the previous platform as a minor and dependant.

Please has anyone experienced this issue with rescheduling a dependants appointment from the old platform to AVITS and how were you able to resolve it.

Do I need to create a new profile with another email for her. We have a limited time because her visa fee expires 19th of June. I don't want to have to pay another visa fee.

Thank you in anticipation of feedback.

Yes you do. Try to be persuasive while keeping fingers crossed. Do not be discouraged even before the interview rather put in the proper preparation.

You have been approved for a non-citizen worker petition (I-797B) which is the first step of your H1-B visa progress, therefore you dont need much worry.

1. Your original school certificates, birth certificate etc would be returned to you when picking your visa/passport but i am not certain of your original transcript. Some organisation likes to keep for further verification or for record. ** You should request for another transcript from your alma mater if its not returned.

2, No one can accurately predict the cause. Why not cross check your case status online at the USCIS

https://www.uscis.gov/ or go to the nairaland section as attached ( USA employment based).

** I think you should Focus the more on the documents you are asked to submit . 👍

Hello Shaba.

The odd is not about knowing someone in america, the odd is about you whose mom is a green card holder .

Doesn't she visit home ? Or why cant she visit home if she need to see her family ? I dont know how she entered america but her family back home (including you) are the original reason....home ties ...she was issued the visa.

Lets assume that she has entered the U.S. in a very legal way but showing interest of stay up to acquiring a green card is an evidence that any family member or friends will like to follow suit because a successful pathway is usually contagious within a nuclear family.

Well, the best time to visit such individuals is when they are graduating, hospitalised, wedding ceremony, having legal issues , wanted to establish a business in america, have bought goods to export home and needed you to come and inspect etc ..

Mind you , the visitor (you) must proof strong home ties and POF as well as strong proof of reason to visit. Otherwise she can petition I - 130 for you once she becomes citizen. 👍

You should not have migrated your old appointment as your old appointment is still valid providing that your ds-160 tallied along.

Raising hundreds of tickets will not solve the issue other than following the official U.S. embassy recommendations which is :

Re: Usa Visit Visa Part 5 by VisaZest: 12:35pm On May 30, 2025
Hi,

You cannot pay first. Before you can pay, you have to fill the DS 160 and go through certain steps on AVITS

Follow these steps to apply:
1. Fill your DS 160 here- https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/
2. Create a profile on AVITS- https://www.usvisaappt.com/visaapplicantui/signup
3. From your dashboard, click on "create new"
4. Follow all prompts until you get to the payment page
5. You have the option of USD payment or Naira payment
6. Once payment is made, you wait for some hours for it to reflect
7. After this, you can book your appointment

Note:
For payment, you can pay into First Bank by walking into a branch or pay online by transfer.

If you want to pay by card, it would have to be a USD card.

Even if you want to pay at the bank, you will still need to follow the steps above before you can arrive at the payment page and generate the necessary number which will be used to process your payment at the bank

Re: Usa Visit Visa Part 5 by Teju2014: 12:38pm On May 30, 2025
Its dicey!! Not now that they are trying to cancel Citizenship for 'Aliens'. Even if you mail the embassy in Lagos, they will tell you the onus is on the US immigration to give you access into the country. You can gamble it but be prepared that it may come up when you want to renew.

Consultvenek:
Chances of this is so slim so I will not advise you take this route if you still would love to visit the states in the future. If you want to give birth try Brazil or Mexico.
Safe delivery to you in advance.

** If the other reason of your visit is genuine and you think it is reasonable (to the consular) to guarantee a B2 visa in which if successful you would have spent approximately 8.5M NGN... Then go ahead and apply.

I will give it an unofficial 35/100% chances. It's not absolutely unattainable. 👍

Good day Everyone, thanks for the contributions and insightful directions.

Please I want to inquire what happens when someone is turned back for not having the same DS-160 number on the appointment form as that on the barcode ?

Does one loose the MRV fee ? if not how does go about rescheduling ?

How does such a situation appear in the AVITS profile ? does it appear 'Not appeared for appointment' ? or is there any other connotation ?

Thanks for the insights in advance.

You will pay another fee, fill another form and look for another interview date. I don't know how it looks on AVITS.

Good day house,
Quick question

What is the best approach to interview for a grandparent who is going for an interview alone and doesn't have good command of the English language ?

Is it possible to have a translator go with him/her ? is that allowed

what other ideas can one use to approach such a situation ?

Thanks in advance.
Re: Usa Visit Visa Part 5 by JohnZak: 3:12pm On May 30, 2025
Original documents will be returned to you. Copies or documents addressed to the embassy like letters of recommendation may be withheld and may not be returned to you.

The information on your I797 is generated based on the information that was provided by the petitioner i.e. the hiring company to USCIS so it is surprising that the details on your I797 is different from what the VO is seeing. Reach out to HR or immigration services rep at the company (petition) and find out why there is a discrepancy. One reason, although unlikely, is if the petitioner is a subcontractor for a larger company (like fortune 500 companies of government agencies) and the larger company is what is showing up to the VO.

There is not a lot that you can do since you have already been interviewed and submitted your docs. Just wait and hopefully, everything works out.

On the form, there is a section that asks for the languages you speak. Please list the language there; do not write English, as the embassy has its own translator and you cannot bring yours.

I strongly believe that external translator won't be allowed except a family member who is also a travel companion.

Fill another DS-160 for granny and request for a translator (embassy will provide automatically but if they dont have the translator for mama's dialect then they Will write you to bring one along and give you details about how to do that) and state at the end of the form that a son /grandson or daughter have assisted her in filling the form.

Note: Remember to update Grandma's new ds-160. 👍
