The Biafran military, naive and tragically underprepared, stumbled into a war they had no business fighting against a professional army. Their leadership was chaotic, their tactics unrefined, their strategy practically nonexistent. Meanwhile, their opponents didn’t win through honor or skill—they starved innocent women and children into submission. It was not a war; it was a siege against the most vulnerable. That moral failure—Biafra’s refusal to retaliate with equal brutality—is why this nation still fumbles decades later with a rudimentary insurgency like Boko Haram. Biafra should have answered atrocity with devastation. Farms should have burned. Drug factories, pharmacies, and food depots should have gone up in flames. Nigeria’s civil infrastructure—telecom towers, power grids, fuel lines—should have been crippled. Total war should have meant total destruction, but instead, restraint cost them everything. Only. Russia understands this type of warfare that will leave no winners. |
