Exactly two years ago today, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu stood on the podium and declared a new dawn for Nigeria under the banner of “Renewed Hope.” But two years on, the reality on the ground tells a far grimmer story.

In what many consider the most abrupt and thoughtless presidential statement ever made on inauguration day, Tinubu announced, “Subsidy is gone.” From that moment, Nigeria was plunged into a spiral of suffering. The economy buckled, inflation soared, and ordinary citizens were thrust into a daily battle with hunger, poverty, and despair.

From crippling inflation and unchecked insecurity to reckless economic policies that have deepened inequality, the Tinubu administration has in the eyes of many Nigerians replaced hope with hardship. What was once sold as a promise of reform has unravelled into widespread disillusionment and a nation teetering under the weight of poor leadership.

And now, two years later, the question echoing from the streets, markets, and homes across the country is simple, urgent, and damning:

Where is the hope?

He is called "TPAIN" for a very specific reason.

It was not the subsidy removal as a stand alone policy that caused the present hardship.

It was a combination incompetence, arrogance, greed and god complex.

The decisions taken, fuel subsidy removal and devaluation, were hastily taken because bat had seen an avenue to enrich himself and his cronies, forgetting the negative consequences on the masses.

While reforms may have been necessary, their execution lacked foresight, empathy, and adequate cushioning for the most vulnerable. A vision without planning is not reform — it is disruption. The urgent task now is for the government to shift from rhetoric to results, and to rebuild trust through measurable, inclusive, and people-centered governance.
