I watched on DSTV yesterday how the Rural Electrification Agency has immediately secured 130 jobs for 130 young graduates in the renewable energy sector.

In a bid to close to skills gap in the renewable energy sector and empower young graduates with qualitative industry skills, while securing the fast-growing clean energy sector in Nigeria, the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) in partnership with the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) and the Ecological Innovation Empowerment Initiative (EIEI) have launched the NEXTGEN RESCO Program.

On the 26th of May, 2025 in Abuja, 130 young graduates, comprising 50% of male and female future leaders, were officially inducted into the 12-month long program, with a unique opportunity to gain quality industry knowledge, learn from industry experts and collaborate with key stakeholders in the energy sector.

Leveraging its close-knit strategic engagements with the Renewable Energy Service Companies, the REA has equally secured the buy-in of the private sector, ensuring the 2025 Cohorts of the NEXTGEN RESCO Program secure active roles in private sector companies in Nigeria, optimizing the skills garnered from the 12-month long Program.

Upon the official launch of the NEXTGEN RESCO Program by the Honourable Minister for Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, the REA has successfully secured 107 ready paid roles for the 2025 Cohorts, with more private sector players making commitments to take on additional Cohorts.

I wish every government agency can be as transparent as the REA, Nigeria would have been a really better place for everyone.

I wish I know about the Nextgen Resco program much earlier maybe I would have been among the lucky ones. But anyway I have to give kudos to the REA for the growing renewable energy projects we have been witnessing across the country.

This is commendable. I wish more Nigerians can benefit in more programs such as this. The REA is keeping to their promises.

Congrats to the lucky ones.

Over the years, we've witnessed tremendous progress in rural renewable energy projects, enabling more communities to access electricity. The REA has kept their mandate and we have to give it to them.

I don’t know why I keep missing opportunities such as this. Good luck to all the graduates that were picked and I have to command the REA for giving them this huge opportunity.

Congratulations to all the beneficiaries. My own turn will come.
