Leaders that prevent rain...? Because since, many people have not been successful preventing erosion... You can tell your leaders how to stop rains from falling... Maybe some people can tell rain when to fall and how much they need during rainfall... Did it happens in the time of your father, grandfather, forefathers and ancestors...like that?

What is the cause of the flood? This doesn't look like it was caused by the rains. It's barely raining season.

I was surprised to hear it on a local news station that focuses on very local matters and have them on repeat ...as in a guy was playing fighting with his pit bull in the park when the dog got serious and began biting him in the face ... he stabbed the dog in the neck and somewhere else. Now he is charged for wounding the dog ...animal cruelty. Then comes the news about the flood and 151 deaths. Rushed to NL... wasn't disappointed.

Floods happen. But is this a flood zone? Is it the first time heavy rains flooded the area? If residents never knew...now they know and should expect this to happen again. The FG need to relocate the town.

May God also bless we, Nigerians, with the wisdom to desist fro dumping refuse inside drainage channels and building houses along water flow channels.

it won't trend na...since it has nothing to do with 2027 elections. Imagine, 151 lives gone due to flooding and government isn't even making any noise about it..Look at the number of properties lost. A major bridge was washed away completely.

This flood is not waits deep as claimed in the story, this flood is head deep if not roof deep. Just see the house roofs in the video.

So many Nigerians are adamant too, majority of them built on water ways, some built on moat like in Benin Edo state, how then would they want water to flow to rivers and other big water body reservoir and when the disasters come they begin to blame any body

The Al-Jazeera English report says it's caused by "flash floods."

It's absolutely unsafe for people to live right on the banks of major waterways such as Rivers Niger and Benue. The agency in Nigeria (Nimet) has issued warnings earlier of floods taking over low-level areas from the North to the South of Nigeria, BUT people don't listen and take these for granted.
It's time to move other people to higher grounds along the entire river paths to minimize deaths from potential rising waters. Period.

My condolences go to the families of those who have passed on and lost valuables in that State.

@princepalace,

That's interesting to know. I appreciate the clarifications you brought right here on the EXACT location of the floodings. As a lover of credible news and world history for decades, I like to get the specifics right about major events.

Second, and MOST important, Is that Jebba North an area indigenous to the Nupe folks OR the Yoruba folks? I once saw claims of both Yorubas and Nupes saying the Jebba in Niger belongs to either of them.

I'm however aware that Jebba in Kwara State has an Oba (or King) hence is part of the larger Yorubaland, BUT I want some final historical CLARITY from you based on the fact that you fortunately grew up there in Jebba North like you stated in your post.

Third, are there truly some indigenous Yoruba populations in Niger State or is it just Yoruba settlers?

I look forward to your feedback here.

Thanks.

Understood. I thought as much. Normal rainfall could not have wrecked so much havoc.

Sorry to hear about the losses suffered by your people. I pray they get succour soon.

Afternoon sir, shame the guy hasn't returned to answer your questions because I too am interested in the make up of indigenous people in that Kwata, Kogi and Niger axis.

I have to say though that I don't think there are indigenous Yoruba people in Niger state, some settlers maybe who have become as local as the locals.

Some family friends of mine came back to Yorubaland from Minna where they were born and bred in their teenage years. They used to go back occasionally and some of them finally went back after the death of their dad. They never really settled here despite being Yoruba speakers etc.

Now Tapa's are a different case as I believe they are indigenous to Niger state but have obviously come to Yorubaland (mainly Ẹgbaland actually) to stay due to migration. It might happen that when they go back to visit their ancestral homes or maybe even relocate back, folk might mistake them as indigenous Niger state Yorùbá's which they are not.

My take anyway, probably all nonsense, who knows.
