It's the God you believe in that has saved you countless times. Perhaps, since all these involve you driving, avoid driving when travelling. Also learn to keep your mouth shut. Not everyone needs to know about your whereabouts

strange world... You opened this thread on my birthday and I also have similar phobia although I have been working on mine... I use to love to travel with my parent as a child but somehow I started developing this phobia, it took me years to understand why ... The problem is that my mom and I almost lost our lives during one of such trips as a child and it never occurred to me that could be the reason I developed this phobia... Anyway let me stop here...

We were returning back from the village in the early(6am) hours of the morning and before we would exit the village, the brakes of our vehicle(Lexus 350) failed and the speed of the car tripled. I saw death, I came in direct contact with death, but God saved me. My friend who was driving was quickly rushed to the hospital where he spent a week but I was lucky to not be much affected. I only had a cut on my lips and head. The vehicle somersaulted countless times. Farmers who were on their way to the farm that morning and heard the sound of the car somersaulting refused coming to help us. They said they didn't want to see Dead bodies at that early time of the morning, they didn't know we survived.

Sometimes again, I had another accident. I was about running mad when I eventually managed to pull out of the car, I had use my head to hit everywhere. These two accidents involving two different cars were all sold as scraps cos the damage were irreparable. And if they were to be fixed, the money would be more than imagine.

Again, my father died from a motorbike (Vespa) accident many years ago while I was just 7years. He didn't die on the spot, he even brought himself back home that night unaided. No external injuries but he had internal bleeding which wasn't detected in time, at 4am, mum took him to the hospital as pains in his chest became intense and at 7am, he gave up the ghost. The psychological impact of all these still affect me, I guess.

How do I overcome this please?

You are not the only one . For 10 years I didn't travel outside lagos . The level of insecurity and road accident is enough reason to remain where you are . Even during my nysc days ...I didn't travel out of my ppa for one day . Some corpers were wondering if I have family ...the fear of road accident and insecurity is the begginibg of wisdom for some people . Travel only when is necessary ...some death can be avoided

PTSD is as real as real.

Your near death experiences, coupled with your dad’s death can really cause such.

But while you’re scared of the road, I hope you know the building you’re trying to make a safe haven, can collapse? If your house is by the roadside, I’m sure you’ve read news of trucks and vehicles ramming into buildings, crushing people who were asleep.
Basically, “there’s death even in the cooking pot”.

If you’re a religious person, you just tell your Creator in prayers, while taking proactive measures before driving. Always ensure your car or whatever means of transport you own is in optimal condition. Still, pray.

Get born again. That fear will vanish, and nothing will happen to you. The devil is the owner of fear. God wipes it out, and you will travel anytime you feel like, without a single thought of fear.

If you weren't here 100 years ago where are you, dead is necessary not to be fear, rather fear God, life is a recycle, I sometimes dream I am a white man fighting in WWII as a soldier .. just do right avoid Karmic sins.

I’m so sorry you had those horrible experiences. You probably have PTSD from those bad experiences . I’d suggest a self- administered exposure therapy. Whenever you have to travel, prep yourself mentally for days or weeks ahead of the travel day. Use your imagination to picture yourself on the road, in a car, with passengers etc. and then try and condition your mind and emotions towards either neutrality or positivity. It’s like using your imagination to face your fears and trying to conquer it or reduce it before the actual travel. Good luck.

i think i have the same issue when i was traveling from warri to calabar in 2022 with peace mass the tyre of the bus pulled out with the bus on very high speed close to portharcourt the next thing i saw we were in the bush dodging electric pole.
After God saved us that day i got ptsd, i could not leave calabar for 1 year plus i was not even able to attend bro induction in portharcourt, until something happened again NYSC even though i tried working in it to calabar or PH with 150k, i was still posted to the north, i tried booking flight but the next available flight was in 5 days time which might be too late.
so i just booked bus instead (ABC) when i entered the bus i started feeling suffocated anxious and sweating, to cut the story short when i reached camp the relocation failed because they dont allow medical corper relocating, so i stayed in the north for 1 year straight before flying to delta after the 1 year.
since then i never commot.

Have you considered the fact that you are dealing with a post traumatic issue, having you considered talking with professionals.

Phobias tend to avoid the situations
Traumas stern from having experienced the situations.

I am thinking your fears started when you started having these accidents.

Also be prayerful sir, but try and get a therapist, they work really. Please see to one and try and get death off your mind.

Can you ask yourself if you understand what it means to loose someone dear and do you know what it means to forgive yourself and move on? You have decided to paint the memories of someone you say you loved with regrets, pain and grief.

You're suffering either from emotional trauma or PTSD.

Look up to the symptoms of the two. You should fit into one or the other.

My brother, since you're a Christian, I can advice you.

Every accident leaves you with a traumatic experience that opens doors to demons. Through that trauma, the demons will cause unexplainable fear and establish a phobia. Consequently, the traumatic incident, in your case, the accidents will continue to happen and may even become generational. If not taken care of, your children will have the same phobia and would also become accident prone.

Go for deliverance my brother. Tell your story to a deliverance minister. Let them separate your soul from the memory of the accident that took your dad. Let them break the soul tie between you and the first accident that happened to you. Let them usher the peace of God to dwell in your heart and cast out the spirit of fear and death. You shall be free in Jesus name. "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." 2 Timothy 1:7
