Agriculture na correct gold mine. I'm into it since 2016 and I know how profitable it is.

First :

The first step in setting up a farm is to inspect the land, examine that it can be worked upon by a tractor because not all lands can be ploughed with a tractor because often times, lands can contain rocks, tree stumps that makes them unsuitable for tractor to operate on them.

You need to make sure of the suitability of your land. Once this is confirmed, you may go ahead and make payment. In my case, I paid 15,000 Naira per acre. My six acres cost me 90,000 Naira altogether
Location of this farm?

Lease can be between 10,000 - 30,000 Naira per acre depending on the community

Seeds costs around 55,000 - 60,000 Naira per acre inclusive logistics costs from the supplier, per 10Kg per acreage.

Planting costs 12,000 Naira per acre if done with a planter and fertilizer applied at the same time. Otherwise regular planting that may not give the expected planting population may cost around 8,000 Naira, while separate fertilizer application may cost 8,000 Naira per acre.

Ploughing may cost around 30,000 - 40,000 Naira per area depending on the community.

Herbicides mixture may cost around 20,000 - 25,000 Naira per 240litres mixture per acre subject to preference

Two bags of fertilizer is needed in the first application. Another bags of UREA may be needed when it starts tasselling. A bag of fertilizer may cost between 30,000 - 45,000 Naira per bag depending on the part of the country you belong.
A great job done by a good person.

Weed control is everything in Maize cultivation. Weeds can eat up to 40% pf crop yield if they are not well managed in the first 8 weeks of crop growth. To ensure a weed-free farm, i utilized a combination of Lagon and Glyphosate. Lagon to seal weeds seed and inhibit weed seeds growth for weeks while Glyphosate in the herbicides mixture kills weeds that escaped tractorization.

***I personally supervised my labourers herbicides application to avoid application mistakes that may lead to weed emergence along the way. In my style of herbicides application, i always mix a fixed ratio of liquid and inform them they must continue to spray until the liquid is finished. This way there is no excuse of them just walking across the farms and not doing the actual work.

Think smart farmers !
What's the name of the herbicide pls

My next step is securing a tractor. I paid 35,000 Naira to have am acre ploughed. This same area of land can give me 10,000 fresh Maize cobs or 2.4/2.5 Tons dried maize grains. Though in my project, I am aiming to produce dried maize grains only.
wow, that ploughing is cheap! How did you secure the tractor please?

@Op. Please, how much can i get an acre in Kuje
Re: My Maize Farm - Six Acres by Mary95(f): 12:19pm On Jun 05, 2025
Everything looks easy, interesting and profitable on the screen here but the reality is in the farm.

Pls,if you are not a pro in this line of business ,don’t just take your money and start doing this business to avoid losses.

At the moment, maize is cheaper than even pure water. They sell 12 pieces at just #1000. If you start encouraging people into this, then the supply will even get worst and price drops further.

We that we even planted March this year,we have not yet break-even how much more seeing profit not those who will harvest afterwards. Thank God for the cassava planted in between, this will neutralize any loss.

The op is new in this line of business reason his hope is high. He should take heed and plant cassava or perhaps,if he will sell the maize dry by March next year.

Base on the current situation of each countries, if no obstacles occurred, u will be riding in million within a short time.
Herdsmen and insecurities are the major obstacle to farmers

Thanks. I have standby buyers for my dried maize grains. I know the qty of seeds i planted and the estimated financial inflow. Hence, i am not worried. As an educated farmer, i go with my figures from blueprint to the field. I am not selling fresh, nor worried about price fluctuations

God will help you. I would rather you plant cassava by the side. In 8 months time, you will start harvest. This is the real deal and not maize.
