We are all speculating but L'equipe said City offered that based on it being the release clause. Lyon, on the other hand are denying the release clause or saying it is no longer binding. I doubt Viana would have offered that as a troll. So chances are, he got that information from Cherki's agent.

I also read that Lyon have some financial issues and will prefer the deal be done before July so they can cover some of their financial lapses from the previous financial term. All speculations like I said.

One thing is sure though, Cherki himself spoke to the French media after this game and when asked where he'd play next season he responded:

"We all know where I'd be next season. We are only focused on playing the final game [against Germany] and the deal will be announced".

Liverpool is an insecure club. I've said it here. But Wirtz is a baller. I'm not going to be salty about him not picking City to diminish his impact.

Truth be told, I wanted him @ €150m thinking we'd still go for Cherki. But soon as he selected Liverpool, I'm content with the work we've done thus far. Just to add a RB (probably Livramento) and I'm good to go.
