Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and key members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) met with President Bola Tinubu on Sunday at the president’s Ikoyi residence in Lagos, amid growing speculation of a strained relationship between the two leaders, News360 Nigeria reports.

Present at the closed-door meeting were prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders from Lagos, including Mudashiru Obasa, speaker of the state house of assembly; Femi Gbajabiamila, chief of staff to the president; Senator Tokunbo Abiru; Lagos deputy governor Obafemi Hamzat; and former deputy governor Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire.

The meeting followed days of public attention over President Tinubu’s visible snub of Governor Sanwo-Olu during last Saturday’s commissioning of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway.

At the event, Tinubu greeted dignitaries but pointedly skipped over Sanwo-Olu to shake hands with Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo, fueling rumours of a falling out.

Tensions reportedly deepened on Thursday when Sanwo-Olu was absent from the official flag-off of the Lagos Deep Sea Port access road reconstruction, an event hosted by President Tinubu.

Despite a seat reserved and labelled for him, only his deputy, Hamzat, was in attendance.

The recent signs of unease between the two leaders are believed to stem from political tensions surrounding the brief impeachment of Speaker Obasa by the Lagos State House of Assembly, a move reportedly carried out without Tinubu’s consent.

Obasa has since been reinstated as speaker.
