Mike Ejeagha Buried Within 24 Hours In Line With His Wish -Son

The eldest son of the late veteran highlife musician, Emmanuel Ejeagha, has disclosed that the family buried highlife legend, Mike Ejeagha within 24 hours after his demise to keep his wish.

Emmanuel disclosed this in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday in Enugu.

He said his father made a wish and warned them not to embalm him after his death which they had fulfilled.

NAN reports that the highlife legend was laid to rest in his country home at Umuagba, Imezi-Owa in Ezeagu Council Area of Enugu State on Saturday, 24 hours after his death on Friday night at the age of 95.

He said his father sternly instructed him as first son that when he passed on, nobody should embalm him.

“I contacted members of my family and informed them that my father made a wish that he should be laid to rest 24 hours after his death.

“I also summoned a meeting of my kindred and we discussed extensively and even Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu State was informed about it and they all consented that whatever was his wish should be kept.

“There are a lot of consequential results if an elder said something and otherwise was done,” he said.

Emmanuel concluded that his funeral ceremony would be announced soon

A man that understood that fame ends on earth. He didn't want his family to go through the stress of raising money for an expensive funeral.

He made his funeral simple and cheap for his family. But the family wants to do otherwise by saying that a funeral date will be announced. Well, let me believe that the funeral will be sponsored by the state government, and Okpara Square will be the venue.

No unnecessary stress and pressure on the family to be organising public ‘show’ for the dead.

A noble and sensible man.All the stress and expenditure for burial is unnecessary.Some even sell properties only for burial.l know of someone that committed suicide because he couldn't give his mom a befitting burial.

Na old man, some mortuary attendants do sell some organs for ritual etc,na why most people don't like taking to the mortuary

You might have a point but 95yrs old don try.

The idea behind a befitting burial for the elderly will some day become a thing of the past. It is a tradition that is emersed in a whole lot of setbacks. Most especially when the family that is directly involved is not financially stable. The dead remains dead and no amount of spending will restore the life back. Resources should be used on the living and not on the dead.

Burial is different from Ikwa Ozu.

Ikwa Ozu is where the expensive rites dey.

The man did not say that they should not do Ikwa Ozu for him.
