People are dumping DISCOs and installing Solar.

My village was without light for 5 years. I spent N5 million installing solar and gave NEPA a middle finger.

I will be spending N15 million this to have my office go off-grid.

In the next 20 years, DISCOS will struggle to stay afloat, more people will dump them, and they will increase bills, layoff staffs and reduce power distribution to stay afloat.

Those who still patronize them will pay the fee of those who have dumped them to go off-grid.

Write this words on stone for future reference.
The FG has for seen this happening and thus banned the importation of solar panels and components.
This means solar power inverters and components prices will skyrocket astronomically (thanks to our greedy neighborood Igbo)making it nearly unaffordable to the common man to buy and intall, thus guaranteeing the dependency on the inefficient DISCOs to continue milking the citizenry.
How can you ban something you don't produce locally but there's demand for it?
That has always been the Nigerian story..
the same was done with Rice..where are the rice pyramids? The same idiotic rice farmers that made local rice more expensive than imported ones? Only in Nigeria.
You did the same for fish and frozen meat, chicken.. where's the equivalent local content?
You say you're protecting local farmers..
The same useless farmers that priced chicken from 8k to 25k last Christmas and lost a bundle? Those are the people you're protecting? Saboteurs..
You placed a huge import duty and surcharge on imported vehicles..you want to protect local assembly plants .how much is the cheapest Innoson cars? Is PAN still assembling in Kaduna and Ọjọ?
Something you're not self sufficient in.. not even in a million years.. you're banning..

1. The price increases are necessary, as electricity is expensive after all

2. There are still losses. Due to lack of payment , shortfalls of18- 22% are still present

Add the fact that only 20% of the customer base in theory pays market price

3.Yeah, they collected 792 billion naira in three months. Nice until you realize that the sector as a whole needs 15 trillion naira annually to guarantee 24 hours light supply to the people on the grid at the moment

4. At the end, we should stop longing for free electricity and accept that it is an expensive thing. South Africans have constant increase on power bills and they can't afford them and power cuts still happen there.

All in all, we can't have free electricity. Any government that promises simple solutions to our power problem is lying. Like apc did with fashola and rocket scientific system. It is going to take a lot of money and a lot of investment and people paying market price and those whom cannot afford getting cut off before we see power

And yes we can do power free of charge. USSR did it, at the expense of a debt that added to other debts left them in bondage to the IMF and led to it's collapse.

You can call me a apc supporter or use ad homiens, or you can acxept the bitter truth. In 2013 , I was forced to accept the bitter truth.
Most of the money for investment...
still go back to the pockets of the elites(politicians)...
Whats the whole essence of paying for something that get squandered in the long run.

You guys should stop telling yourselves that the elites are taking all the money, especially since most of the discos except one are owned by politicians.

The real issue is government controlling electricity prices which prevents profits and investment and people not paying their bills, tinubu inclusive

And, what are the different sources a country can generate light from?

Stop typing rubbish.
Nothing can compare to electricity from the power grid, financially, functionally and efficiency wise.
There are lots of things your solar cannot do,unless your energy consumption is for light and small appliances.
Even when the inverter breaks down, changing it imvolves a big outlay, unlike electricity where you pay on a monthly basis.
They should just give everybody prepaid metre with regular supply, then nigerians will learn how to manage their units to reduce the financial burden.
It's only very big industries like Dangote,PZ,flour mills etc, that can afford to generate sufficient power from high MW yielding sources that can conveniently do without the National power grid.
Solar panels on household scale cannot be a stand alone, even if you like spend 30m.

You have serious interests in Power economy. I know.. grin

You have been warned DISCOs will struggle in the next 20 years..

In the past 5 years there has been an exponential growth on Nigerians embracing solar. Drive around and look at the roofs everywhere, even in ghetto areas.

People will ask you DISCOs to go FYS in the near future when you bring your crazy bills and raise your tariffs.

My house in my hometown is completely off-grid. All the important points that I need to power are functional. TVs, inverter-friendly AC, small fan, lights and a small fridge.

I have told your NEPA guys to come take away your useless meter and wires.

There are and any price intervention is not like Nigerian one whereby price is cut below the production price

Also if you ran a business and 20% of your customers did not pay and 60% underpay you, you won't have much of a business.

Better accept the fact that things cost money..you don't have to support any politicans to see that

Govt dont run their affairs solely on business motives....
Its a standard practice all over the world...
Developed world intervention schemes are based on
transparency, trust and mutual understanding...
Govt playing their roles... citizen pay fair prices for services..
whilst coy also play their roles....
Our system is a chaotic one, with fraudulent practices from coys..
Shifting estimated bills to citizens... citizens purchasing transformers ..
poles and wires and still getting charged without reimbursements...
A system plague with poor regulatory oversight... and corruption...
Things cost money ....
but it is important to have a level playin field for all participants.
It is the masses that is at the receiving end of these game.
