Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has described his recent visit to President Bola Tinubu as a personal one, aimed at offering encouragement to the president amidst Nigeria’s ongoing economic challenges, News360 Nigeria reports.

Speaking to journalists in Lagos after the meeting on Monday, Fayose commended Tinubu for his efforts so far, noting that although the country’s problems cannot be solved overnight, the president has taken bold steps to stabilise the nation.


“My visit is personal, to further encourage him to continue to do what he’s doing for Nigerians. No one is saying it is easy, but there is no miracle that can turn around things overnight,” Fayose said.

He acknowledged Tinubu’s courage in tackling Nigeria’s economic woes, adding that the president’s actions so far offer hope for a better future.

Fayose, known for his vocal criticism of the previous administration, said he could not compare the current situation to the past.

He[b] also addressed rumours about leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following a wave of defections, firmly stating he would not defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

[/b]“Ayo Fayose will not move from PDP to any political party, not even APC. I am this year 65 years. It is within the choices of those who are choosing to move,” he declared.

Fayose, however, admitted that the PDP is in crisis. “And without doubt, the PDP is in trouble. And that’s the gospel truth. And I believe that if they don’t quickly, quickly take steps, the party in itself will become carcass,” he warned.

While clarifying that he no longer plays a frontline role in party politics since leaving office, Fayose maintained that his belief in Tinubu’s leadership predates his presidency. “Even while I was in office as a PDP governor, I’ve always believed in his leadership,” he added.

He concluded by urging Nigerians to give the president time, praising his stabilisation efforts in the economy and expressing optimism about the country’s direction under Tinubu’s watch.
