Nigeria hosted an Organisation of African Unity (OAU) summit in1991. The summit was held in the new capital, Abuja. Several 6-door stretch W124 Mercedes Benz were bought to ferry leaders at the summit. Apart from African leaders, the United Nations Secretary General, Javier Perez de Cuellar and the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) Chairman, Yasser Arafat also attended the summit. The International Conference Center (ICC) in Abuja was built to host the summit. The ICC has also served as the chamber of the National Assembly (1992-1993) and it has hosted the 1995, 2005 and 2014 National Conferences. The ICC has been in bad shape a few times, which has led to calls for it to be renovated.
