I am not sure, but it appears that I read about a court order stating that Nigeria forfeits a building used as our embassy after failing to pay after several appeals and warnings. So, Nigeria needs to be extremely careful since many nations are involved. We can't seal any embassy. Everything must go through the court. |

nwirinedu:Embassy compound if they are owned by another country's home government is considered a sovereign territory and therefore, the host country is not allowed to trespass. I can see many Nairalanders here are ill informed. If they are renting the property and refused or have not paid rent is a different case. Julian Assange was holed up in a foreign embassy for years and the host country couldn't touch him. Our Embassy in Washington DC is owned by Nigeria and not, US. Cuba maintains an embassy here on Mass Avenue, America cannot go in there. Iran violated the diplomatic norms by invading and taking the American staff hostage. Embassy officers have special car license plates or decals. A police cannot arrest them for crimes committed but they can detain them and they can claim diplomatic immunity from prosecution and sent back to their country ... 1 Like |
