Ghana Bans Use Of Honorary Doctorate And Professorial Titles In Public by fergie001(op):
Public Notice

FINAL CAUTION-USE OF HONORARY DOCTORAL AND PROFESSORIAL TITLES IN PUBLIC

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) would like to send its final caution to the general public to note that henceforth, citizens with honorary doctorate and professorship should cease the use of it in public. This is to reiterate the Comnission's earlier public announcement cautioning the public on the use of honorary doctorate and professorship titles. This notice goes especially to politicians, businessmen and businesswomen, men and women of God, and any other category of persons to desist from officially using the honorary doctorate and professorship titles in their everyday life.

Such practice is deceitfiul and unethical and also tends to dilute the integrity of the higher education system, and the value of true doctoral education and promotion of the professorial system in the universities. The Commission would, from now onwards, in addition to naming and shaming those individuals who would be found to have flouted the GTEC directives take a legal action against them.

PROF AUGUSTINE OCLOO
DEPUTY DIRECTOR-GENERAL

People who aren't qualified just call themselves Dr. It has to be regulated if not, we wouldn't know the difference in the future. Its quite preposterous that anyone can be given honorary dictorate. We would have to ask which of the doctors are you? Small doctor? native doctor? conductor?

Then, you should stop awarding it. I don't even know the essence awarding honorary degrees.

Don't you people know how long it takes to acquire Bsc and PhD?

Why give random people honorary degrees? Is it for money? If you want a degree, go to school, work hard and earn it.

When a country's leadership is willing to make things right, they don't need an army of brainwashed praise singers and paid media manipulators, they just make things right and the people sees the reforms working. Congratulations to Ghana, they got themselves a working President.

Lol.

What's the purpose of having a honorary degree without being able to use it?

What is expected of them to do is find a way to differentiate them.

For example, Dr(Hon) Chibuike Paschal.

Should we prioritise this over the need to use our commonwealth to make primary, vocational and secondary schools free for all children?

How many developed countries do you know with less than 5% of schools being owned by government?

Ratio of public to private schools in Lagos State is one to 22 ― Commissioner
September 4, 2022

The Lagos State government has said the ratio of public to private schools at both primary and secondary school levels in the state is one to 22.

The state’s Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, gave the revelation in her remark at the 2022 edition of the Total School Support Seminar Exhibition (TOSSE) held at Oregun in Ikeja between Thursday and Friday.

The honourary doctorate and professorial titles truly undermine the integrity of academic and professional ones and I agree with the GTEC for banning their use.

Interesting development. The paradox however is that the one giving the directive ended his writing by using his educational title Professor Augustine Ocloo
