I have never had but happens to know people who had terrible experience with this unprofessional attitude of healthcare workers refusing to attend to accident victims needing emergency care. They are really bitter experiences.

Such wickedness, is not as if he had gun shot wounds but accident ,is police permit needed to treat accident victims, this country is becoming increasingly difficult to live in ,since 2015...

In Nigeria, our response style to emergencies is abysmal.

Imagine:
Calling out for a nurse/doctor even right in front of a hospital to stretch in a dying accident victim

Waiting for a fire fighter truck to complement the people's manual effort in putting out a fire.

Inviting the police to an ongoing robbery scene.

The above scenarios all have one thing in common.. Disappointment! They are only hyper active in movies.

Good, but it's a national case. We're so used to dealing with scapegoats instead of also solving the underlying issues.

again ??

I will say this for this reason only.

I pray this is University Of Abuja Teaching Hospital. It so terrible that the numbers of people that die from professional misconduct of trained and confused student doctors are far more than the ones that die from natural causes.

This is not baseless. Give me a camera and have me produce a documentary on this.

Most hospitals are just there to treat malaria and typhoid. They don't have the faintest clue how to tend to critical victims

Dear Honorable minister of Health, please you will not be solving any problem if this overdue punitive measure is just for the Abuja Hospital... extend it nationwide... especially Nnewi Teaching Hospital in Anambra state... very heartless set of people...

Exactly
There's an underlying issue why medical professionals avoid some people,

A friends mother who is a senior nurse at a teaching hospital explained to me why somethings happen.

One thing was the fact deaths are counted against them, so if they see someone they feel is about to die or have no hope they'll reject

75 percent of the Nigerian nurses are not supposed to be in the profession, likewise the medical doctors.

The worse is going to collect a police permit.

Even the police will want to collect bribe from you first..that's if they don't rope the case on you.

Many reasons people don't help accident victims.

Re: Abuja Nurses And Doctors To Face Panel Over Abandonment Of Accident Victim by Jman06(m): 12:55pm On Jun 11, 2025
Honestly, it is not the nurse's duty to lift the accident victims off the car and into the hospital ward.

That incident underscores the gross shortage of staff in our public hospitals. JOHESU and other groups have been calling for increased employment of staff into our hospitals but government and hospital management have maintained deaf ears over the years.

Go to many of these government hospitals, you'll see that there's a total shortage of both clinical and non-clinical staff in these hospitals, yet when incidents like the one in question happens, the few staff on ground are expected to become superhumans and do even jobs they are not employed to do.

I don't blame the nurse! Government should devise a means to increase employment of staff into these hospitals! You don't just employ a few hands and expect them to burn themselves out on top of the chicken change they're getting paid.

One of the first thing a Nigerian medical practitioner learns is how to be heartless.

Exactly, plus other things like money. Who's buying and paying for the treatment. Who's footing the medical bills. It's a tough but valid call that's unsolved. There's no medical insurance and proper identity.

We need an urgent reform in the health sector.
I have said long before now.
When you go to all the federal medical centers in FCT Abuja, you will then understand why our politicians and elites do not use our public hospitals.
You will accept the fact that if you have money, you and your family will never near there.
Due to very poor delivery of health service and facility, many of the federal medical centers facilitate the death of poor Nigerians.
